Why is it that so many men hate women?

pallasathena · 18/06/2016 00:44

I'm particularly bothered by the recent attack on the FEMALE Labour MP. And I'm increasingly disturbed by the number of women who suffer at the hands of the establishment who decree that women who are subject to appalling situations including rape, emotional/physical abuse are somehow, able to cope, able to maintain a sort of strange, odd equilibrium. Why is that? Why do the powers that be assume that women can just 'get on with things' ? I find it impossible to deconstruct.

OP posts:
DetestableHerytike · 19/06/2016 08:48

"Maybe now"

All we can change is the now, daisy!

bluecashmere · 19/06/2016 09:33

Yes. Remember here was a point in history where a woman didn't have rights over her children, and men automatically got custody, particularly in the case of female adultery.

Rockluvvindad · 19/06/2016 10:25

I love the fact that Mumsnet taught me a new word. Misandry... I had to look it up. Speaks volumes really.

And yes, this is trolling. What a ridiculous statement OP. How many is"so many" ? Why do so many women hate men ? See how easy it is to flip that on it's head.

I have daughters, I'd identify myself as a feminist if I had to identify as anything. Actually, I believe in equal rights for everyone, rather than specific groups. This sort of man-bashing dumbs down the issues you're trying to highlight.

Why not ask "what is it that drives some men to hate women so much that they resort to violence and / or emotional abuse ?". That's a valid question with a myriad of answers.

When something on a forum degenerates into the "men beat women more than women beat men" discussion, it's already pointless. The point is that ALL domestic abuse is wrong and abhorrent. It should ALL be stopped. The fact is that because historically the majority of abuse has been from men directed at women in the past means that there are proportionately more support networks in place for women suffering from it than men, and that it has much more visibility.

Why do so many men hate women ? Maybe they don't. Maybe you're completely wrong in your assumption that so many men do.

To quote Forest Gump...

"That's all I have to say about that"

Great, what are you doing to campaign for refuges for men?

UnderTheGreenwoodTree · 19/06/2016 10:39

I think a surprising amount of men are afraid of women.

I really agree with this. They are increasingly scared by a lack of control over women, women can do their own thing now - they are not the wives and daughters under mens' control.

One tiny example was Dennis Waterman, admitting that if a woman (he was talking about his then wife) was winning an argument, he would 'settle it' by punching her. I think a surprising number of men feel like this. And a surprising number do get physical with women. They don't like women having the upper hand, being their bosses etc - because they have an ingrained feeling that women should be beneath them, that they should be in control.

Rockluvvindad · 19/06/2016 10:47

Detestable, I'm doing nothing... Because I'm doing things for the charities that I have more personal involvement in, much like most other people do. If something happened that made it more personal to me, then I'm sure that I would alter my perspective.

That doesn't mean that I don't support those that do...

But nice way to deflect from the true point of my statement.

What are YOU doing for male refuges ?

Curviest · 19/06/2016 12:26
  1. I agree 100% with Underthegreenwoodtree. I think she has nailed it totally.
  1. I, too, am exasperated that 3 posts in and the thread had been derailed to Poor Men.
  1. Blue wrote: "there was a point in history where a woman didn't have rights over her children, and men automatically got custody, particularly in the case of female adultery." I need to correct you, sorry. The fact is, for the whole of history, until 1923, British woman had NO rights over her children, and men automatically got custody, even in the case of his own adultery.
  1. Lastly, Men are afraid that women will laugh at them. Women are afraid that men will kill them.
BertrandRussell · 19/06/2016 12:39

It is routine now for women in public life to be bombarded with rape threats and other violent mysogynist messages on social media. A man was talked to by the police very recently for sending such messages to Jo Cox. Not, apparently, the man who murdered her.

Sparkyduchess · 19/06/2016 12:45

RLD, that's one of the finest examples of mansplaining I've ever seen. You really are a little hard of thinking.

WaspsandBeesSting · 19/06/2016 12:55

All the last murders and serious injuries on MP have been on male MPs. The last in 2010 where he was fighting for his life.

I don't actually for once, think it was a gender issue.

RiceCrispieTreats · 19/06/2016 13:18

Oh, RLD. You got needled right in the privilege, didn't you? It's not nice to hear that you belong to the class that victimizes and oppresses another class, so your knee-jerk reaction is to reject that statement and the people who dared make it.

Maybe listen when people tell you that there's a problem, rather than take it personally.

LaBelleOtero · 19/06/2016 13:21

The thread title is 'Why is that that so many men hate women?' And the bulk of this thread nothing to do with that title.

Instead of derailing, perhaps posters who want to talk about a different topic could make their own threads next time?

SoThatHappened · 19/06/2016 13:49

Because they mostly want the milk free.

Some but not a huge amount of women are happy to be a long term gf with no commitment and no support

From my last few years in the dating pool most of the men i have met just want a long term woman to fuck without stepping up for anything else.

You have to be able to support them in fact.

DetestableHerytike · 19/06/2016 14:09

RLD

Your issue seemed to be that DV against women got a higher profile and that any argument that this might be because men beat women more than women beat men was "pointless".

Since men do beat women more than women beat men, and since many more women than men die at the hands of their partners or exes, not sure why its pointless to say so.I donate to women's refuges un line

If you think the balance is wrong, why do you think it's my responsibility as a woman to do something about it, even though I disagree, when you are busy supporting other causes that matter to you?

Have you listened to your own illogic of late?

DetestableHerytike · 19/06/2016 14:15

I am sick and tired of MRA types, of which you may or may not be one RLD, ignoring the fact that women's refuges were only set up after women worked tirelesslyfor them and complaining about the fact there are fewer men's refuge places without doing anything about it themselves.

Rockluvvindad · 19/06/2016 15:37

What a terrible thing... A man points out that the OP's statement was ridiculous... And then gets the usual bombardment...

RiceCrispie... You're a woman. How does it feel to be a member of the class that commits DV on men ? See how stupid that statement of yours is ? The OP wasn't telling me there was something wrong. She was making a sweeping statement that many men hate women. To distil DV against women down to such a puerile exclamation belittles what is a serious issue.

Sparky - Maybe read my post again carefully before taking offence. Or maybe you're hard of reading ? Or more specifically comprehension...

Detestable - My issue was that such a sweeping statement was being give serious thought. What would posters be saying if it had read "why do so many women hate men" ? And any illogic of mine is totally drowned out by the rampant misandry on here...

But like a PP said, the thread is being derailed. Sorry for trying to point out that there might be a flaw in the Op's post. I'll go and get back in my cave and look up some women on the news to hate...

UnderTheGreenwoodTree · 19/06/2016 15:44

Men are not historically oppressed by women, Rock.

Men have at no time been seen as property by women, as women have been seen as property by first by their fathers, and then their husbands.

But yeah, it took 2 posts into this thread before the whataboutery started.

DetestableHerytike · 19/06/2016 15:45

No, RLD.

You stated that a discussion that included the acknowledgement that men beat women more than women beat men was "pointless".

Rampant misandry, bullshit. It isn't misandry killing two women a week, raping tens of thousands of women a year, committing FGM, posting rape threats to women online expressing an opinion on anything, doxxing said women, sending dick pics (aka flashing) to women who are on OLD sites or even just posting a restaurant review.

Check your privilege, RLD. #WeSeeYou

Warrior314 · 19/06/2016 15:49

Haven''t read yet, but yes, it's incredibly depressing, and upsetting. Men hold all the power, and they still seem to hate women. Or if they don't hate them they mock them or sneer at them or belittle them.............

derxa · 19/06/2016 15:53

I can't answer the question OP because I'm not a man.
Why do so many women hate men? I hate some men because they're horrible people. Equally I hate some women because they're horrible people.
I think bringing Jo Cox into this is disgusting and disrespectful.

wol1968 · 19/06/2016 15:54

Ahem.

How many men are in jail for murdering women?

How many women are in jail for murdering men?

I think the bookies would put all their odds on the first outnumbering the second by a factor of 100 or more. Women learn to feel wary of men for a very good reason - that statistically men are more of a threat. Don't try and derail that by focusing on individual cases. Look at the overall numbers. They really are overwhelming.

[head...bang...wall...]

UnderTheGreenwoodTree · 19/06/2016 15:54

And check out Bye Filipe if you don't agree with the premise of the OP.

BertrandRussell · 19/06/2016 15:56

"I think bringing Jo Cox into this is disgusting and disrespectful."

I bet she would have been first into the discussion.

derxa · 19/06/2016 16:01

I bet she would have been first into the discussion I believe she campaigned for gender equality and would not have been discussing that in terms of 'hatred'.

HermioneWeasley · 19/06/2016 16:12

For you RLD

Why is it that so many men hate women?
