How were you proposed to?

My proposal was when I decided I wanted to go to lunch, he pulled out a ring and asked if I wanted to wear it, then asked me to pay half of the bill. Not the most romantic. Anyone had better than mine?

He wandered in one night, I was working from home. Told him to go away because he was hovering and it was creepy Blush He looked a bit nervous and asked me to marry him. Said yes, hugged, went back to work! Grin

we went away for my birthday. we went out one evening for a meal. we walked along to Beach and he started asking how much I loved him. he then said how would you like to be Mrs feeling. then he got down on one knee and got this ring out. I will never forget it.

leftearburning · 17/05/2016 21:41

This might out me but never mind.

He rang me at work and asked if I could take the following Wednesday off as annual leave. I explained I couldn't as there were only 2 of us who worked in that office and my colleague had already booked a holiday for that week. He kept insisting that I ask for the day off. We were getting more and more irate with each other as he wasn't listening so I asked what was so bloody important that I had to take that particular day. His reply - "We're getting married for fucks sake". (He had booked it and was going to 'surprise' me on the day).

My response was, but I still can't take the day off but I will double check with my Manager. He said no but my best friend was the MD's secretary so when I told her she got the MD to overrule my Manager and so it went ahead. Was back at work the following day!

Divorced 10 years later so am still pissed that the MD said yes :)

Aww some lovely and funny stories. Some men are bloody useless though

So are some women. Wink

My DH and had a really bad argument. We were laid on sofas set opposit to each other and I looked over at him and thought he's such a wanker. Then I thought that he's MY wanker and I couldn't bear life without him.

So I ambled over got down on one knee and said that even when we were angry, I wanted us to always be together so would he marry me.

It wasn't a grand romantic gesture, it was a realization that whatever life threw at us we'd handle it together.

I'm not a fan of the grand gesture and luckily my now hubby saw things the same way. Smile

pocketsaviour · 17/05/2016 21:59

Oh Joys that's actually lovely, and very like how it went down with me and my H.

I've been engaged twice before that and both times it happened during sex. I'm going to assume it happened because I've got a magic vagina Grin Grin Grin

My H just basically said when we were watching TV one night "what about getting married then, I love you even when you're a stuck up bitch" and I said "Cool, I love you even though you're a twat. Let's do it" and we did Grin

EssentialHummus · 17/05/2016 22:03

At Cafe Rouge before a screening of Macbeth. Not that romantic but it had the surprise factor Grin

The wedding is next month Grin

We had been talking about getting married and having children for over a year, we were young and my husband wasn't on the best of wages. We were walking past my favourite jewellers when now dh, asked me to show him which kind of ring I would like best. He told me he needed to know what he had to save for.. So he took me inside and he asked for me to try on some rings. The jeweller took us to this little booth and he brought out trays of different ring styles. I found my dream ring and the jeweller took a photo, then attached it to a business card with details of cost etc. About a month later my Mum told me that my dh had been to ask their permission to marry me. I was crazy excited, my dh had also asked my Dad to look after my ring whilst he worked away. When he came home, my dh took me shopping, buying me a lovely new dress and underwear (lol), then he told me he had booked for us to go to this lovely little restaurant. My parents had huge smiles on their faces so i knew something was going on. When we got to the restaurant my hubby ordered champagne and gave me the sweetest speech, he was so nervous and emotional that he forgot to kneel down. But I didn't care I was head over heels and so excited! I wouldn't change my husband's proposal for anything, it was intimate, romantic and so kind and thoughtful, which is how I think of dh.

I've just decorated my phone with coffee Grin

FluffyPersian · 18/05/2016 06:18

I've never wanted a proposal - I wanted to be the one to propose. So I did in December, got down on one knee on boxing day with a pie and a ring Grin

Wedding booked for 2018 Smile

Longdistance · 18/05/2016 06:18

My Dh proposed to me at Shirley Heights in Antigua. There was so much fun, dancing and sheer drunkeness, I couldn't hear him, he had to pop the question 3 times, ha!

WildIrishRose1 · 18/05/2016 06:38

With the words "I suppose we should get married, then", while washing dishes! Worked though!

Ankleswingers · 18/05/2016 06:49

My now DH took me to Rome. We stayed in a beautiful hotel and on the second eve he took me to the Trevi Fountain and got down on one knee.Smile

I had no idea and what was really sweet ( for me anyway as I come from quite a 'strict' family) was that he had been to see my DF beforehand to ask permission for my hand in marriage.

We had the best time on that trip!

Smile

ShatnersBassoon hilarious! Grin

Ilovenannyplum · 18/05/2016 07:18

I got engaged on Christmas Day, I got presented with a Mariah Carey "all I want for Christmas is you" CD and then he produced a ring box cheesy I know
I was so surprised, I just kept asking "really?!" He had to prompt me to actually answer him because he's knee was starting to hurt Blush

That was 2013, our wedding is this Christmas. I'm so excited!

How were you proposed to?
YouMakeMyDreams · 18/05/2016 07:39

Dh and I were away and staying in a hotel in the town we both went to uni. I knew he had the ring I'd wanted to buy it for myself because I liked it he wanted to buy it to propose. I was not at all bothered about a romantic proposal I'm quite practical we had decided to get engaged so why all the faff?
We were relaxing in our hotel before we got ready to meet friends for dinner and I had said I might pop down the shops for a browse and he said oh before you go I've got something for you and gave me my ring.
Was nice to be meeting friends and getting to share it with them and have a little celebration.
Started planning the wedding straight away and got married 18 months later. He made up for his lack of romance in his wedding speech too.

Terrifiedandregretful · 18/05/2016 08:12

We just talked about and agreed to get married one night in front of the fb. I hate the idea of a 'proposal' myself, especially the woman not having a say in when it will happen. (We then split up, but I'd want to have it exactly the same if there's a next time).

WaitroseCoffeeCostaCup · 18/05/2016 08:46

My Husband took us to the lock which is where we went for our first date. I was pregnant so he bought champagne glasses and elderflower cordial with rasberries. It was pitch black and I couldn't see the ring very well! We called our Son Lochlan Smile

LikeSilver · 18/05/2016 08:52

Mine will out me, but I proposed to DH. It involved a big box and the Police. He said 'are you for real?' and I said 'of course you twat, do you think I would go to all this trouble for a joke?' and he said 'OK then' Grin

He did later say, after I had been in labour for 70 hours having our first, that he would have proposed to me then had we not already been married nice to know that's all it took

RiceCrispieTreats · 18/05/2016 08:53

Down on one knee in his parents' spare bedroom with a diamond solitaire on Christmas morning.

Couldn't have been more traditional, and I'm really not one for tradition, gender differences, or blood diamonds. Neither was he, for that matter, but I guess that sometimes you just revert to the rulebook.

Joystir · 18/05/2016 09:06

We hadn't even been on a date. We used to volunteer at the same place, and I didn't even like her- we really clashed, and argued all the time.

At that time I was determined to be single. I didn't want my life to be turned upside down by falling in love! So I didn't want to notice how attractive she was, and how kind she was, and how I was sort of relying on her to be at my side. Or how I was dressing in my sexiest jeans when I knew she would be there.

Anyway, we had to work a lot together to prepare for a big anniversary celebration for the charity we volunteered for- we were thrown together. I kept thinking, I want to hug her. That was all. It was very innocent and sweet. After the anniversary celebration I'd hugged every one but not her! Then the next day we shared a long long hug. It was like coming home. It was everything. Shortly afterwards she texted the big question to me and as I read it a great wave of happiness washed through me. The rest is history! We were both in our fifties. It is the only time after many relationships that I have fallen in love before being sexual with someone.

Whisky2014 · 18/05/2016 09:21

Aw man I want to be proposed to!

salsamad · 18/05/2016 09:22

I had popped in to see my DH on my way home from an intense step class, so I was rather red faced and sweaty, greasy hair plastered to my head . My DH had just got in from a hectic days work and he was rather dirty from working on a large commercial boiler.
I was standing at his Mums sink getting myself a drink and when I turned around he was down on one knee by the sink unit holding out a solitaire diamond ring with a cheeky grin on his grimey face. We had briefly talked about living together/getting married but this proposal was a suprise - he'd sold his car to buy the ring Shock.
We've been together almost 23 years and it's our 21st Wedding Anniversary this year. I love him so much it hurts and he truly is my best friend Smile.
