Does anyone know roughly how far ahead i should send invites for my wedding and reception? Is a month too much / not enough?

It is usually 3 months before hand.

whoopsfallenoveragain · 04/01/2007 12:31

I was given an invite to a wedding reception in May just before Christmas.
I think I gave a couple of months notice for mine

We sent abroad ones several months before. They all knew anyway. More locally about 8 weeks before I think.

DetentionGrrrl · 04/01/2007 12:31

Is it?!

well it's the beginning of June, so if i send them end of March that should be alright i think.

Considering it's a small, low key thing, there's a lot of bloody organising to do!!

hmm, I was cheeky and for our August wedding wrote notes in the Christmas cards letting people know the date so they were less likely to be double-booked when the invitations went out in May.

CountessDracula · 04/01/2007 12:38

I thought 6 weeks was the norm (but obv let important people know the date ages before!)

Listmaker · 04/01/2007 12:43

It's my wedding in 3 months (and 3 days!!) and we have been writing the invites. My mum keeps going on about how it's supposed to be 6 weeks before etc etc but I think 2-3 months is better. Mine is Easter Sat so i want people to know they are invited so they don't make other plans! Plus it's another thing of the list...........there's so much to organising a wedding isn't there?!

Fiona365 · 04/01/2007 13:05

Tradition says 6 weeks, but stupidly that's what I did, then a few people couldn't come, as it wasn't enough notice!

You could always email people in advance, so they have the date, then send them 6-8 weeks before.

Good luck - hope everybody that you want to come makes it!
