I'm having an in between thing as you described but there is no angst about where it's going really and haven't discussed it at lenght, we are well suited but i think we are both aware our life paths are going in separate ways so we are enjoying it while we are crossing.

Well done for ending it. It would only damage your self esteem to continue. As for him turning the tables - well, someone that inconsistent can't really be trusted, can they? And please, step back and look at it dispassionately. He's treating it like a transaction, not a relationship - 'paying' as little commitment as he thinks will purchase him sex Sad. You are well rid.
