Should adultery be re - criminalized?

There's been a plethora of threads from OW in recent days. The general feeling on MN seems to be "cheating is always wrong". Yet most "civilised" countries have removed "Thou shalt not commit adultery" from their statute books many years ago. Was this a mistake?

Of course in those same countries it is still a legitimate grounds for divorce.

So your thread is actually about judgy smugging about how other people who think differently to you are 'wrong'...

Cheating has nothing to do with monogamy. Cheating happens in all kinds of relationships when you go outside your agreement without the knowledge of the person or people you have the agreement with, you lie and hide the fact you have broken the agreement, what precise agreement you had, whether it is a monogamous one or an open relationship doesn't matter.

Hello Slowf. Your friend went through an awful experience, bullying is a nasty thing. Is she ok now?

Regarding affairs. We are all free to make our own decisions, ie to be a cheater or not. I do think that as soon as that decision is made to cheat the cheater should be responsible and respectful to tell their partner that they have broken their agreement with them. I don't see the point in living with lies and subterfuge.

Criminalising adultery would be a terrible idea. Just who would be available to play next weekend's round of Premiership matches?

Yawn.

Is this yet another thread where someone pretends to have a general discussion about cheating . When in fact they want to point out that while other people's affairs are wrong , they personally have a good reason .

If an affair is such a reasonable or even good thing to do in your situation , why oh why don't you just discuss it with your partner / spouse ? It's him or her you need to convince , not random people on the internet .

Then it's not cheating at all, it's just an open relationship and you can be above reproach . Simple .

Yawn.
No it hasn't.

Irishdad- there wouldn't be many people left to do anything.
