Have just found out can take mortgage repayment holiday. Wanted to do this, so could take extended maternity leave.

However, last night dp informed me that he wanted me to pay 1/2 of all bills etc from my savings as he needed some money to play around with.

He will be earning full salary with no mortgage repayments, while i will be living on savings.
Is this fair.......or is it me....?

Are you still running separate finances? now you are a family (married or not), take it from me - bite the bullet, stick all of everyone's cash in a single pot, and work it out from there. I stayed proud and separate, and it resulted in YEARS of festering resentment (mainly on my side), culminating in me driving a 9 year old Toyota with 150k miles on the clock and him driving a Porsche. If you don't want to 'share' your money why not? If you can have a baby together you can manage a joint bank account. I wish I had!

A kick in the nuts is a good way of opening the discussion though

I think your DP is being totally ridiculous! It's completely unfair - ok, if he can't cover the bills completely out of his salary you should contribute SOMETHING but no way 50/50.

If he's going to be like this tell him that YOU are billing HIM for the childcare costs your maternity leave is saving him, round here that is approx £1000 a month - his share of this should be enough to cover your half of the bills!
