What precipitated your divorce?

Was there a final straw of a gradual knowledge you had to split but took a long time to get round to it?

The final straw. I was too forgiving & let him get away with just about everything really until it was just too much and I left.
Funnily enough the relationship i'm in now is going the same way as i've let him get away with too much too often so that now he thinks its acceptable. Obviously I didnt learn

TheHighwayCod · 20/11/2006 13:26

is one divorce bad luck but too YOur problem?>

Just wondering

Miaou · 20/11/2006 13:30

I don't think that's necessarily true cod. I know someone who divorced her first husband when he became violent (no children involved). Her second husband started having affairs when she was pg. I don't think she could be held responsible for their behaviour really - just pure bad luck.

buffythenappyslayer · 20/11/2006 13:39

me and my dh were (i thought) happy.then when i was in hospital havinga threatened mc,he came and told me he no longer loved me!!we'd only been married 3 weeks!!

we spilt up but had to wait 2 years to get divorced.

4 years later we got married again!!5 years on we are happier than weve ever been.

Bugsy2 · 20/11/2006 13:42

I would never have divorced ex-H if he hadn't had an affair. I would have put up with his shit & scrabbled along in semi-misery for years. Actually, it wasn't even the affair, but the fact he wouldn't break relations off with the other woman.
Am much happier now!

nutcracker · 20/11/2006 13:49

Final straw honestly was an 18 yr old lad looking at me like I was bonkers when he I said I was staying with him for the kids.

He really thought it was bloody awful and he was right.

nutcracker · 20/11/2006 13:51

I said a similar thing to xp Cod. I said look this is your second long term relationship that has gone tits up, don't you think you should be taking a look at yourself for some of the blame.

He thought i was talking rubbish obviously.

nutcracker · 20/11/2006 13:52

Staying woth xp for the kids sake, not the 18 yr old LOL (in my dreams).

Miaou · 20/11/2006 13:57

lol nutty!!

expatinscotland · 20/11/2006 13:57

He never wanted any kids. Ever. With anyone.

Miaou · 20/11/2006 14:02

Just out of interest, does he still not have any, expat? (if you know?)

stevie74 · 20/11/2006 14:03

1st dh had an affair (with a man and several women) hence why I left, new partner doesn't want to take responsibility for our 2 beautiful Dd's, contribute financially etc - hardly my fault Just p'd that i let it go on for longer than it should!

TheHighwayCod · 20/11/2006 14:04

i knwo a oman who si normal middle class type ( not some old rough burd) who is 40 ans is on her third marriage (wel cohabiiitng htis time)

Earlybird · 20/11/2006 14:06

cod - what about that Jan on "I'm a Celebrity" - hasn't she been married 5 times?

nutcracker · 20/11/2006 14:06

Thats my worst nightmare, to go from one crap relationship to another.

My mum remarried about 8 years after she divorced my dad, and it lasted 2 weeks fgs.

expatinscotland · 20/11/2006 14:09

He doesn't, Miaou. We're still friends. He had a vasectomy about 6 months after we split. Our split was amicable.

A year after our divorce was final, he met a woman who had been sterilised b/c she never wanted kids, either.

They're both in their late 30s now.

They married in 2004 and are VERY happy, just moved back to Germany this past March and we look forward to seeing them at New Year's.

They've visited before, love our girls, just never wanted any of their own.

Miaou · 20/11/2006 14:13

Ah - how nice that you are still friends! I thought that was the case but then wondered if I was mixing you up with someone else .

Cod, the woman on her third relationship - do you think she is the key to why they break up? Or just bad luck?

stevie74 · 20/11/2006 14:13

hanging on at the mo in the hope that he'l change but it's not really likely. Don't want kids to be without their dad, guess my unhappiness is worth more but my jids come first

TheHighwayCod · 20/11/2006 14:13

she is MAD AS A MDA HTGHIN

TheHighwayCod · 20/11/2006 14:13

ah she is mad jna leeming

Miaou · 20/11/2006 14:14

pmsl - er, guess that answers my question then!!

expatinscotland · 20/11/2006 14:16

He's a top bloke, Miaou. And his wife is FAB! She's so funny.

I'm glad they found each other. We were both so sad it didn't work out for us, but knew it was for hte best and that we would eventually find love again.
