The Affair. Will you be watching?

I keep seeing this program advertised on TV. You cannot open a magazine or paper without seeing it advertised. It's unavoidable.
But I'm thinking hmm not sure about watching this one. Too much potential for triggering bad memories Sad

Lots of people on Relationships have been burnt by affairs, so surely I'm the only one not looking forward to it? Are there others feeling this way? Or am I being silly?
Prepared to accept I am. Being silly that is.

I'm more inclined to watch it now I know it's not just people shagging in secret.
The title put me off too, op.

Dumdedumdedum · 19/05/2015 07:11

I watch it on this site, Ledkr watchseries.lt/serie/The_Affair_(2014) - it's a bit hit and miss, some of the links work and others don't, but worth persevering.

Ledkr · 19/05/2015 07:20

Oh thanks dum I'll try.
I find that sky broad band locks me out of most streaming sites.

VanillaTwirl · 19/05/2015 07:22

I wasn't going to watch it because of what I presumed it would be, but I will now too.

dumdedum I've seen the actor (Dominic something I think) in a couple of things and he's very good - he played Fred West in a series a couple of years back.

Dumdedumdedum · 19/05/2015 07:27

VanillaTwirl Yes, it's Dominic West (no relation to Timothy, I believe) and Ruth Wilson plays the female lead.

Dumdedumdedum · 19/05/2015 07:30

Ledkr, no Sky broadband where I live in the sandpit, so can't help you there!

Ledkr · 19/05/2015 07:39

Dominic west was "mcnulty" in the wire.
The female was "Alice" in Luther (drools at mere memory of Idris elba)

I don't think many people find the word affair triggering in and of itself. They may find a story about an affair hits too close to home, but in that case isn't it better that the title makes the content clear? If it was called something vague and the ads didn't focus on the affair aspect (because there is more going on in the show), surely far more people who might find it upsetting would start watching.

It's a good show, with some pretty great performances. Ruth Wilson is fabulous in it. The affair isn't glamorized, far from it.

jenenberry · 19/05/2015 08:08

I've seen the whole of the first series and it is brilliantly acted and a gripping story - I wasn't sure about it because of the title, either, but as pp have said above, it is so much more than that.

Not just me being funny then.

True.
If your life's been turned upside down by an affair, it can be difficult to watch something that's called The Affair

It does sound good, from what people have said so far.
