My ExDH used to have a favourite joke: Q: Why do girls wear make up and perfume? A: Because they are ugly and smell!

i.e. behind the joke, the truth is he really dislikes artifice. He has always had a particular bugbear about foundation and lipstick and hates the smell/taste of it.

Fine by me as I do too.

However, I've just found out that the OW wears false nails, dyes her hair, wears foundation, lipstick...the full works.

So how come?

Well arsenaltilidie, tonight I learned that you are the one that has it right. I've been married to an alien for nearly 30 years I think! It's not fun to learn that one has been a fool and a naive fool at that. But it is a salutary lesson.

I quite like to see the good side in everyone. Perhaps that makes me a sucker. I clearly have been the laughing stock here.
