Men's brains work completely different to women's don't they...

DH offered to vacuum the cat hair off the sofa. Lovely. He couldn't find the attachments in the understairs black hole cupboard. I suggest he take the ones from the old one in the cellar. Our cellar has a very heavy trap door. Instead of bringing them all up, he brought each one up one at a time to show me. Confused Meaning he hefted open the trap doors open then closed them 3 or 4 times. Eventually he brought up the (needed) upholstery bit. Process of elimination.

I did get a bit "oh, ffs!, are you having a fucking giraffe!"

I'm not a princessy high maintenance type, but have been ill for quite a while, so it probably wound me up more than it usually would have. I apologised for the shouting and arm waving.

Love the bloke really. Silly sausage.

Actually male and female brains are wired differently. Hence why women find it easier to multi-task. A skill that men can learn.

I know this because i'm a psychotherapist and studied neuroscience.

However I bow to your superior knowledge. Wink

Anyway, lovely bloke just presented me with a goats cheese and beetroot chutney ciabatta! Lucky old me. Smile

Well done King, taught us something there. :)

BuzzardBird · 30/03/2015 14:08

Ha Ha! Just realised Mantra, was that instead of tuna? Grin Wink

Smartleatherbag · 30/03/2015 14:14

If you have genuinely studied neuroscience, then you'll be aware of brain plasticity during early life and its effects on brain 'wiring'. Therefore you'll also be aware of the effects of cultural norms being subtly imposed on humans from birth and the utter myth of inherent male / female brains.

Whatneedstobedone · 30/03/2015 14:15

Do brains have wires, then?

Smartleatherbag · 30/03/2015 14:19

No, it's a pseudo scientific way of explaining neuroscience.

Smartleatherbag · 30/03/2015 14:20

And isn't used by people who have studied neuroscience to any great depth.

That's just simply not true.

RubbishMantra · 30/03/2015 14:30

Yes it was Buzzard.

Sadly too late to change me mind. Sandwich purchase had already been made by the little hubby. Delicious all the same.

And there's always tomorrow luncheon to munch on to look forward to.

Oh, can't remember who asked for a photo of his abs. He has none. Can't abide muscley men. Like them skinny and pale and waif-like. Smile

Mantra

Could you add some beef hula hoops? Wink

desperately hoping that I'm referencing the same thread

DrMorbius · 30/03/2015 14:39

Isn't the term "hardwiring the brain" borrowed from the belief that certain neurones that communicate regularly develop a carbon track. Meaning it significantly reduces the "thinking time" required by the brain to carry out certain regular functions.

RubbishMantra · 30/03/2015 14:42

Yes Tastlessly, ! shall!

I am packing my bags as I type.

Can't live with the hoover accessory waving anymore. Deal breaker. Grin

He washes my pants though. I never wash his.

SmillasSenseOfSnow · 30/03/2015 14:45

Surely you'd have to have studied something slightly more specific than 'Neuroscience' to speak with any authority on this matter? And if you had, wouldn't you name that rather than the giant field of 'Neuroscience'?

MyChildDoesntNeedSleep · 30/03/2015 14:48

I didn't know that was the definition of chauvinism!

RubbishMantra · 30/03/2015 14:51

No beef Hula Hoops were harmed Jiminey. Yet, I do like them though. Wasn't planning with having them today. Perhaps tomorrow?

Morbius, the brain can form new neurological pathways. Say, after a stroke. Bit like when a bridge collapses. Traffic will find a different route to use. More it's used, stronger it gets. CBT makes use of this. Changing behaviour patterns.

"studied neuroscience" = did weekend NLP course

RubbishMantra · 30/03/2015 14:58

Smilla, didn't say I was a specialist in neuroscience. Said I studied psychotherapy. Neuroscience comes into it.

RubbishMantra · 30/03/2015 15:00

Weasle, doing my psychotherapy BA actually. Smile

TheVermiciousKnid · 30/03/2015 15:07

You might want to have a look at this book.

I find the thought that a psychotherapist seriously thinks that 'men's brains work completely different from women's brains' quite worrying.

dangerrabbit · 30/03/2015 15:12

It's not men's brains that work differently it's their physiology. Unfortunately, their penises get in the way when trying to hoover, rendering domestic cleaning tasks impossible.

I was told this by a urologist posting on the David Icke website so it must be true.

Enormouse · 30/03/2015 15:13

The male and female brain as a concept has been debunked.

He'll get a lot more efficient with practice.

motherinferior · 30/03/2015 15:18

Perhaps you should read Cordelia Fine, who's progressed slightly further than the BA module in How Brains Work By Someone Who Seems Rather Out Of Date?

I spend some of my time interviewing real neuroscientists - the sort who do literal brain surgery - and none of them have ever come out with this kind of sexist guff.

LividofLondinium · 30/03/2015 15:19

Rubbish, it sounds like your DH was having a gender neutral common sense bypassWink
