Terrible Man Flu!

In our house we all have colds. except dh, who has man flu.
He is usually a wonderful husband adn father, but he does not make a good sick person. I have every bit as many aches and runny nose, sore throat, cough as him, but he is the one off to bed and I am the one sorting out the washing, lunches etc etc... Wiping other people's noses (kids are little - 6, 4, 2), cleaning up the sick as ds has been coughing so much he has vomited twice, dosing out the calpol (and remembering who has had what dose when!).
Why are men such babies when they are ill? He's a great bloke most of the time, but this has turned him into a moping monster!!

Oh it's much worse around here, dp has man-pneumonia, which is just flu, however this has unfortunately been compounded by the gp referring him for an x-ray! Never has a man been so pathetic

liath · 16/10/2006 21:57

Does he give you a minute by minute update on the evolution of his symptoms too? My God, if I was to tell Dh about every twinge & discomfort induced by pregnancy & childbearing he'd have no ears left by now

CreepyCrawlyCarmenere · 16/10/2006 21:59

Oh yes, I'm drawing the line at being shown the phlegm on his tissues bleugh.

harrisey · 16/10/2006 22:02

Oh yes, intricate detail about every cough, sneeze, how his throat is feeling right now, how shivery he is ......

Carmenere - yeeeeuuuuuuch at the phlegm!

My dh is a GP but luckily cant refer himself .... but he does know all the complications there could be 'what if I get pneumonia, what if I crack a rib coughing" etc etc

DH is a doctor too, which makes the whining even more irritating - he works in ITU, ffs surely he knows what ILL really is !!

Ugh at showing you the sputum, too. What are they like?

harrisey · 16/10/2006 22:20

No, no-one else has ever been ill before!!

Nice to meet another MNetter with a medical husband! You would think they would be more realistic - I mean, my DH has the common cold, and he whinges about so much whn people make appointments to see him withe the same symptoms he is liberally sharing round the house here with us, who all have the exact same symptoms.

Wish he would fall asleep and stop coughing cos theres no point in me going to bed until he is asleep, he'll just whinge!!

Have the monks arrived yet? (remember the advert? Can't remember what it was for.. Night Nurse or something?) My best friend and I always make jokes about The Monks when DHs are ill...
