Can this email to my DHs account from Jennifer @ gmx.com just be a scam or something more?

CurlyWurlyCake · 11/11/2014 22:09

DH left his work email account open on the joint iPad. I glanced at it and there was an email from Jennifer.

It read: I have some more topless pictures for you, would you like to talk about it. Then signed off as ytmmhgy.

The email address is something like [email protected]

Can this just be a scam email, to his large corporate company email? Where would they get his email address from?

He deleted the email from his phone and it's now in his trash. He hasn't mentioned it which makes me think it's not the first time. If I received something like that I would tell him in a OMG you will never guess the email I have just received Shock way.

I get these all day everyday on my hotmail account (my OH gets them on his too)

Spam spam spam, think nothing of it.

Leviticus · 12/11/2014 09:16

I'm shocked and quite hurt to hear that Adriana's been putting about with others on here TBH.

But yes, that sounds like very typical spam to me.

FryOneFatManic · 12/11/2014 15:01

Sounds like the kind of spam my old boss used to get. Some spammers trawl for publically available email addresses, which is why the boss got them and I never did.

The IT section used to just tell us to delete and ignore, which is what it sounds like your DH is doing.

I now work for a company that has the generic email style of initial.surname @ company dot org, so those spambots could just generate random email addresses to try out in the style of our company. Given the number of people at our place with fairly common names, I reckon they'd make quite a few hits for spamming.

I gave my wife my phone to look up an address (on an email) ages ago. She found loads of these types of things. She was not impressed. I hadn't even seen them because they were sent to my gmail spam folder. Normal service was resumed when I told her to check her spam folder - there were of course lots of emails in there too!

WhoeverYouWantMeToBe · 12/11/2014 16:02

curly if your DH has ever used his email address for anything non-work related like internet shopping, email address can often be sold on.

I get loads of emails to my personal account from Adriana, Viagra offers, people from the Bank of Africa saying I've been left a million pounds in a will, HMRC saying I have a tax refund. The list goes on, they all automatically go into my junk thank god Grin

KraggleLego · 12/11/2014 16:09

I get crap like this al the time, telling me I have won competitions or advising me how to find local sluts. Hmm

Comito · 12/11/2014 16:22

OMG, I thought Adriana only had eyes for me! > shocked

NancyJones · 12/11/2014 17:56

DH gets these a lot at work. I think they tend to target mans first name so women get less although I imagine his poor secretary whose email add is Chris@ gets he'd fair share. My hotmail junk is usually full of Viagra offers but I have been offered big tits a few times and the other week I was asked why I was no longer interested in Sophie's wet ass. Hmm it was actually worded as if I'd shown some level of previous interest.

NancyJones · 12/11/2014 17:57

Her fair share

Anniegetyourgun · 12/11/2014 18:57

Mystery solved. But maybe you'd better LTB just in case Grin

TrousersSchmowsers · 12/11/2014 19:02

I'm always getting spam like that e.g. "Hi it's Tiffany here, thanks 4 sending me ur pix, I wud love 2 get 2 no u better..." etc from weird addresses like that. I just delete them but I bet they cause no end of arguments...

Bogeyface · 12/11/2014 19:04

I have 2 hotmail addresses, one I have had since 1998 and is .com and the other is more recent so is .co.uk. I get the most amazing amount of spam to my .com account presumably because spammers think it is an American based address. I hardly get anything to my .co.uk.

Almost all of my spam is offering to enlarge my penis, give me enormous erections or look at somones boobs. I am sure they will all come in very useful if I spontaneously turn into a man!

ouryve · 12/11/2014 19:07

I keep getting spam reminding me that I'm due in court.

TrousersSchmowsers · 12/11/2014 19:07

Nancy yes they can be worded as though the recipient has broken off something... "Hey honey, why didn't you reply to my pictures? Can't wait to hear from you... kisses from Patti"

Well Patti I only tried the other side of the fence once briefly and that was in 1992 when I had very limited internet access... sorry to crush your hopes Grin

puds11isNAUGHTYnotNAICE · 12/11/2014 19:12

I used to get spam from a gay dating site (I am a straight female). Lots of bizarre naked shots taken in what looks like shop changing rooms Grin

I'm fairly certain I am not a gay man, therefore, must be spam.

SocialMediaAddict · 12/11/2014 20:23

I got one similar yesterday and I'm definitely not up to anything. It wouldn't occur to me to mention to DH I got a weird email.

ChillySundays · 12/11/2014 21:44

At work I seem to get loads about Viagra.

At home the latest one is one that looks like it is from a firm of solicitors with an attachment. The title says summons. Have had a few of these. No solicitor would send anything like that via an email

munchkin2902 · 12/11/2014 21:52

It's definitely spam - get them every day in my spam filter at work with the same wording!

JustWantToBeDorisAgain · 12/11/2014 22:49

I never used to get them but now seem to get loads about drugs (always spelt with a z!) bloody annoying although they do go straight to my trash folder.

I get a lot of demands to pay road tolls for roads I have apparently driven along in various American states. And of course the ubiquitous parcel notifications.

StrattersFeeear · 12/11/2014 23:48

Blimey, even I get penis enlargement spam, Viagra spam, etc. not Adriana though, but my junk mail seems to get a fair bit from Ilonka, who has just moved near me and is lonely. She needs a big man, apparently. Can't help her with that.

StepAwayFromTheEcclesCakes · 13/11/2014 13:57

if I took up every offer of penis enlargement I get DH's cock would stretch from Plymouth to Leeds Grin

LonnyVonnyWilsonFrickett · 13/11/2014 14:52

That reminds me, must reply to that email about my dead father (he's not) and send my bank details so they can arrange payment of his estate.

Spammity Spam. Although I do have an enormous penis, even though I am a woman...
