Hubby taking strop too far (as usual)

My husbands hobby is train sets, he has them set up all over the attic and they drive me mad, he spends so much money and time on them and I see them as quite 'geeky', it wouldn't bother me so much if he didnt talk about them constantly and go on about it in front of friends and bore them with it too.
Anyway last week he told me that a couple of his friends from work were coming over on friday night (last night) for a drink and a look at the trains, he had boasted to them all week about how many he had, how many collectors editions he had and how expensive they all were. As a joke I swapped the trains with Thomas the tank engine trains whilst he was at work yesterday and put the fat controller and the helicopter etc on the set-ups, usually he would find that kind of thing funny too but when he got home and led his mates upstairs they all fell about laughing and he went mad saying I had shown him up etc. I did apologise but he's still going on about it, we were meant to be going christmas shopping this weekend and now he's saying he "cant be bothered" etc. Maybe I should'nt have done it (and have apologised) but is he not taking it a bit too far??

I think it was hilarious, and he needs to get a sense of humour!

ishouldbedoingtheironing · 30/09/2006 12:05

pmsl He really needs to get a life

colditz · 30/09/2006 12:06

I think when he gets over this he will see the funny side. Often the funniest pranks could go both ways, IYSWIM.

prettymum · 30/09/2006 12:07

that was a good one!!! he needs to grow up!! ignore him and you go and do some shopping!!

southeastastra · 30/09/2006 12:09

i think that's so funny! they get so precious about their hobbies don't they haha!

for a laugh i always put my dp's perfectly ordered massive cd collection out of order and he notices straight away so sad.

Blu · 30/09/2006 12:11

A lovely humourous first post Katnip - irresistible, just like catnip!

ledodgyrobespierre · 30/09/2006 12:14

I've just told my dp about this and he's still phsl.

katnip · 30/09/2006 12:17

Glad everyone else see's the funny side, I thought it was funny and even his mates said they were not taking the mick, they just found it funny but he said I was "trying to get attention" etc. .

I'm feeling less guilty now, he would've laughed if it had been done to someone else, I'm going to take his bank card and do some shopping lol .

Are you going to buy him a Thomas the tank engine comic while you are out . ?

Crotchety · 30/09/2006 12:47

You're going Christmas shopping?? Feel seriously inadequate now...

squatchette · 30/09/2006 13:15

Crying with laughter here what a fab joke.No offence but i can't imagine what it must be like to live with someone so anal about stuff or is it just the trains he's like that with. I used to work with a guy who played this game with other full grown men(no women 'nuff said)and they had little plastic miniture people and did battles with them or something Dungeons and Dragons maybe?Everyone thought he was a right weirdo talked of nothing else and rather annoyingly called me melinda (as in messenger)for 3 yrs which isn't my name obviously.Anyway i'm going off on a tangent.Did you really say Xmas shopping please let me be hallucinating where has this year gone.Is it just me or does time seem to speed up the older you get i'm 27 and when i was a kid the summer holidays seemed like a lifetime!

AttilaTheMeerkat · 30/09/2006 18:32

katnip,

No you should not have done this although you may also have done this out of sheer frustration at his all consuming hobby.

BTW has he always been into collecting stuff like this obsessively?. He may actually have some autistic traits.

inmyopinion · 30/09/2006 22:00

go xmas shopping by yourself and buy him the whole Thomas the Tank set.
Btw i think that was brill. He will see the funny side with time.
Nice one!!!

kiskidee · 30/09/2006 22:06

katnip, are your sure this isn't something that some head wouldn't cure?

pmsl btw.

wakeupandsmellthecoffee · 30/09/2006 22:24

Ive just had a mental vision of you all sitting round the christmas tree early in the morning . The smell of the turkey cooking christmas carols playing and wrapping paper all over the place . The last present under the tree is wrapped in the most exquisit wrapping paper it looks really posh and expensive . Your DH has been admiring it all week as when he reads the label it says in beautiful handwriting : a special present for a very special husband : he has picked up this gift several times and gently shook it and he is none the wiser. the anticipation is really getting to him . He opens the gift really slowly looking at you and smiling feeling very special indeed. And what is this superb gift

A Thomas the tank engine book which you can open out into a train set with a moving wind up train .

Judy1234 · 30/09/2006 23:35

May not have been such a good plan to make him look silly in front of his friends. Was he into trains when you first went out with him - like part of the deal when you took him on?

SherlockLGJ · 30/09/2006 23:39
