yesterday we bought 4 new doors for the flat wich cost £100 my boyf is a mechanic and a very good one but he also thinks that he can do everything else, after 2 solid days of triming the doors they still dont fit so i rang my friend whose dad is a chippy and he said he will do them next sat for £80 my boyf is now suliking in the front room and wont talk to me surelly after 2 days of trying he wants to give up and leave it to the pros ?

I'm sure it's some macho thing that only another man could understand - hunter/warrior crap. You've now introduced another male into the pack and he no longer feels the alpha male.
At least he tried, in our house dh leaves all that sort of stuff to me as he's not very good with his hands ooer!

nikcola · 10/04/2004 19:09

yeh but he is also moaning about the money i think that £80 aint bad for getting 4 doors fitted, he is one of these people that dont like paying for things he thinks he can do everything his self wich he cant we have had the tiles for the bathroom in the cubard for a year and when i say lets get a tiller to do the bathroom he says no i can do it

I too always say i would prefer to do stuff tosave money but then faced with actually doing it then call in the experts (which dh isnt).

JJ · 10/04/2004 19:12

Can you cancel up until Friday? Give him until then to do them. If he doesn't get them done, keep the appt.

nikcola · 10/04/2004 19:15

oh i dont no its taking me ages getting the bits of wood out the carpet, how hard can it be he keeps blaming it on the tools

Tell him £80 is 20 less than it would cost if he has to replace all the doors again because he has mucked them up and made them all wonky.

nikcola · 10/04/2004 19:20

awww nikcola, don't be upset

If you lived near me, I'd send my DP round while yours is out to fit them for you and you could say the door fairy did them

Thankfully mine is good at things like this as well as electrical & plumbing, but there's no way he would even look under the bonnet of a car cause he knows he wouldn't have a clue lol

Hope things brighten up soon for you hugs

nikcola · 10/04/2004 20:00

Tell you what, I'll run to the shop and get some lemonade and I'll come up yours, share that bottle with you, then between us we'll get the doors done and your house all spick & span

Wish I really could

Hanging doors is a real b*ger IMO having replaced four of them in our last place ? I'd always leave it to someone who knows what he's doing. Sorry your boyf is being such a tt about it though.

gothicmama · 10/04/2004 22:27

Find a way to boost his ego and then get someone in to do the doors alternatively try to do it yourself and make him feel so guilty or so determined that you won't do it when he can't he'll get someone in

nikcola · 11/04/2004 12:12
