The Brave Babes Battle Bus - Getting Ready For The Golden Sights Of Autumn In Search Of Sobriety.

Hello everyone, I'm Mouse :) and this is the Bus I've been on a while now!

It's filled with a variety of drinkers. Those that do, those that don't, and those who are desperate to STOP but hide it, or embrace it and get the help they NEED.

'Help' in whatever form works for them, your friend or you. Be it AA, a Local Community Alcohol Counselling Group, your GP, your family/friends, this thread or even a combination of all of the above!

You have to want to stop drinking more than wanting to breathe.

I know that right now, that may sound like a ridiculous goal.

They got sober, One Day At A Time then came here during the process to chat about it, discuss their feelings, but more than anything else, their experiences HELPED OTHERS TO BELIEVE that they too could get dry.

They might not get dry and stay dry, sometimes they'll be lying about their consumption, fooling themselves as well as others

BUT when the posters do get dry for good, come back and post to help others with their tricks of the trade or just to say 'I did it!!' my heart jumps for joy because that person, poster, Brave Babe has gone through hell and back, lived to tell the tale and now wants to share that with the rest of the Bus to see if one simple trick or technique will put them on the track to recovery, sobriety, to the life that they want to lead :)

There's two saying that have appeared to stick with us -

    • The Vulnerable Need Our Support, Not Our Judgement
    • Alcohol Fosters Inertia

We all have our own reasons for starting to drink 'too much', we all have an excuse don't we.... we all have a "but....."

Well, as I say to Nemo (who you will get to hear about Grin) - goats butt!

And for those of you who want to know a bit more -

HERE IS THE MOST RECENT THREAD

AND THIS IS WHERE IT ALL BEGAN, OVER FOUR YEARS AGO!!!

See you soon x

purple so glad your back, we missed you. Last time you posted was around the time of the Handsome Farmer, I know it fizzled out but is there a man these days?

Hope everyone has survived, is it the school holidays all over the Uk? If I survive this week with dd2 sober (not her me obviously) I will be chuffed.

She had already cut her entire fringe off to a one inch stump (looks like a monk) and has a cracker of a black eye (not inflicted by me) so anything can happen.

Dh is away working all week which I'm glad about, we're not getting on so the break is a welcome one, it's a horrid thing to say but no conflict at least.

I luffs you all, this bus continues to save me every single day. Xx

aliasjoey · 13/10/2014 18:24

His name, if I remember correctly, was Tasty Farmer. Smile

PurpleWolfe · 13/10/2014 18:49

Lol! Yes, Joey, his name was the Tasty Farmer! Had horses and a verrrry cute puppy! But, also had an ex wife with cancer whom he felt he had to support. Good on him, really.

No, Baby still single. Had a few dates here and there, one or two (honestly!) millionaires (pushy bunch, I found) but seem to have settled (for now) for a semi-detached relationship with ex. He continues to help out and support and, really, don't think I have the energy for a new relationship just now. The ex is mostly a nice bloke, just can't live with him. It's taken me a good 4 years to decide I don't want anyone permanent in my life for now.

In other news, now have a job in a school. Looking after 4/5 year olds at lunchtime. Love them to bits. I didn't expect to get emotionally involved but it's almost impossible not to. They make me smile every day. Smile It's so much better for me to have to get out of bed, out of the house and have a purpose to my life - even if it's hard sometimes.

I've missed the Bus but bored myself rigid with my lack of progress on the AF front so didn't feel posting would help anyone. But, here I am again. I can't leave now as some Mousey person has glued my arse to the seat!! Grin

venusandmars · 13/10/2014 19:05

baby I remember when my dd did that - she looked like the guitarist from Slade Shock

aliasjoey · 13/10/2014 19:56

purple I only know that was his name because my kindle still predicts that 'tasty' is followed by 'farmer'

PurpleWolfe · 13/10/2014 20:06

Grin @ Joey x

Fairenuff · 13/10/2014 20:06

Ha venus that picture made me laugh sorry, lol Grin

One of the 7 year olds at my school came in on Monday with a very short fringe. I was just about to ask if they cut it themselves when I decided to be more diplomatic and instead I asked, 'who cut your hair?'

Answer 'My dad did it'
Me 'Oh, it's lovely, is he a hairdresser'
Child 'No he's a plumbing and heating engineer' Grin

70hours · 13/10/2014 20:07

Bloody hell just read lots about cirrhosis of liver - sobering stuff indeed !!!

dementedma · 13/10/2014 20:13

I remember tasty farmer purple!
Yes, thing s still the same here plus a small flirtation with Distracted Chap which could not be. If I wasn't a greedy cow I would lose my appetite and pine for him and become romantically frail and interesting..but I am a greedy cow so chances of me becoming a love lorn wraith are non -existent.

Fairenuff · 13/10/2014 21:00

Get your shovels out and your wellies on Scottish babes, I have the answer to all your money worries.

Nancery · 13/10/2014 21:29

Evening all! I've been dipping in and out, if not actually posting much. The good news - today I went to Sainsburys and bought £17 interesting non alcoholic drinks. The bad news is that I now appear to be on my second glass of wine Confused We had an amazing dinner of slow roasted lamb with barley and veg so wine seemed more fitting.
More seriously, this thread is helping me hugely. A few of you have said that it's a long road, and thinking about bring AF even if you can't do it full time (or more than two days at a time...) is still okay. I have found huge comfort in the fact that so many drink like me and also either want to, or have fine, something about it.
Thank you xxx

dementedma · 13/10/2014 21:50

Wow faire. Wouldn't that be wonderful?
I have had only one small bottle of Stella Raspberry Cidre and am tucked up in bed with a cup of tea. Not quite AF but better than a bottle of wine.

venusandmars · 13/10/2014 22:02

faire / ma why do you think I've been away for the last few weeks??? Grin Grin

MaryMungoAndMidgies · 13/10/2014 22:02

Faire darling, if I want so certain I'd end up with a fist full of cat shit I'd give it a go... Grin

But hmmmm. I think I may know a canny spot....

Oh noooooo...Made in Chelsea is on. Maybe the morn....

MaryMungoAndMidgies · 13/10/2014 22:04

Wasn't not want.

dementedma · 13/10/2014 22:09

Venus wondered what you'd been up to! Did you use your wise woman mystical powers to find the treasure?
wry I'm with you.I'd just end up digging up shit for sure. How's the leg?

MaryMungoAndMidgies · 13/10/2014 22:23

Mouse - I so agree - it certainly kept me sober last night !!

dementedma · 14/10/2014 09:52

mouse yup, its the norks causing the issue. or rather one of them!

babyjane1 · 14/10/2014 10:26

Good morning ladies,

ma my mum had the same thing and ofcourse it was all fine. I 'll be thinking of you as these things are always a worry but are almost always nothing. As you are blessed in the nork department there are many square inches for these things to pop up, just like distracted chap, he popped up to xxxx

Mouseface · 14/10/2014 11:20

Morning, tis me, Mouse

As I no longer have a proper menstrual cycle so that could e it but better safe than sorry eh?

Ma - I watched Lorraine this morning because they featured how to examine your breasts properly, they mentioned about weeping from the nipple and also soreness as being a reason to call your GP and go to see them.

I am waiting for a call back

70 - well done on not drinking last night! :)

Now then you naughty lot, I've done the new thread as I'm going to be a busy Mouse. Now, you know the rules, bag a seat, put the new thread on 'watch' and then fill this one up so that we don't have anyBabe left behind now do we?

So, HERE IT IS, THE NEW THREAD!
