Where do I meet a decent bloke?

Dpn't get me wrong it doesent keep me awake at night, I'm a single mum 39 with a dd20 and a ds5. I find either the men at the moment of my own age are on the rebound/separated want to nail eveything in sight or either lots of older men looking for a younger woman or boys looking for an older woman with experience arghhhhhh! Is speed dating the way to go? Internet dating? Whatever happened to simple dating and not just leery drunk types looking for a quick hop after their kebab?

When someone gives you the answer Mhamai, let me know! I've tried speed dating & internet dating & it didn't work for me. However, I think that quite a few MNers had success via the internet. People keep telling me I should take up a hobbie & meet someone with similar interests. Given my favourite hobbie is buying underwear - that could be tricky!!!!

Erm what is wrong with boys looking for an older woman with experience? It's a time honoured tradition and in my opinion a thing of beauty

(I met dp on ICQ, I would try it again if I was single)

Earlybird · 08/09/2006 21:13

What is ICQ?

FrannyandZooey · 08/09/2006 21:18

I heart ICQ

Mhamai · 08/09/2006 21:22

Yeah but some of them are a bit wet behind the ears F&Z, I want a MAN! Bugys my past time is a writers group and we are all women so no hope there. Tbh I don't even know if I could handle a relationship because I quite like my freedom but all that seems to be on offer is flings f buddies or one night stands..... goes off looking for cat catalogue and knitting groups.

Thanks F&Z for the link. Curious - what is it that makes you like the site so much?

expatinscotland · 08/09/2006 22:43

Hmmm. How about church?

Just kidding!

wartywarthog · 08/09/2006 23:09

how about something to do with an interest of yours? if you're musical, join an orchestra. go scuba diving or rock climbing. or join a hiking club. anything! just get out there.

expatinscotland · 08/09/2006 23:13

STAY AWAY FROM ROCK CLIMBERS! Unless you're looking for a good shag w/a fit bloke and no strings.

Mhamai · 09/09/2006 00:43

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm Expat I couldn't find any men in church no ones there these days except the priest..... ooh hang on defrocking a priest, now theres a thought! Warty, I do already go to a writers group, also I'm a single student mum so generally don't get out a lot.

Earlybird, I have't been on there for years and years, but I owe the existence of my ds to that site (dp and I met on there and dp consequently moved 300 miles to be with me )

shebnem · 09/09/2006 07:44

icq is not so good for that anymore.

FrannyandZooey · 09/09/2006 07:52

How come shebnem? I haven't been on for about 6 years and often wonder what it is like now.

shebnem · 09/09/2006 07:56

in 6 yrs it changed really.
now there arent so many decent blokes there.
one in a million maybe. it is not different than other free sites.
it is free so there are all sorts of ppl there, the other dating sites mostly not free.

shebnem · 09/09/2006 08:05

in my opinion to meet a decent bloke the best way is socializing as much as you can, work, hobby group, making friends, etc.
it is good because you meet them face to face at first.
on dating sites mailing sometimes goes on and on.
dating sites can still b tried but the first way i mentioned is better because u are able to meet ppl in your interest areas.

FrannyandZooey · 09/09/2006 08:16

I think I was lucky, for sure

but even in those days I had to beat off the weirdoes with a big stick
