Do these relationships ever happen in reverse. The wife has multiple husbands?

Doubt it. We're far too smart to complicate our lives. Plus we don't have a dick. We have a brain.

yet it would make so much more sense - re: smaller amount of offspring with larger amount of adults to provide for them.

Bogeyface · 21/06/2014 21:32

I read an article about a british woman who lives with 3 men and they had seperate sex lives etc but lived as a family. But generally speaking, I doubt it. Most of us dont really want one husband never mind 5 Wink

Not watching the programme - can't see it listed anywhere!- but polygamy is all about multiple 'ownership' isn't it - there aren't any cultures AFAIK where women 'own' their husband, hence no mechanism to own more than one!

It's on TLC Summer. I couldn't even imagine my DH wanting another wife living in the house let alone another 4. All those children. can you imagine the noise

That's interesting Bogeyface. I wouldn't mind having several husbands. About four would do it. Grin

GerardWay123 · 21/06/2014 21:55

Ohhh, and no way would I want another 2, 3 or 4 DH. It's hard enough sorting a marriage out as it is.

Generally in societies where there is polygamy it is polygyny (one husband, multiple wives) because older men (of whom there are fewer) marry younger women (of whom there are more).

It could work the other way round (older women, younger men) if societies didn't expect that women would all have lots of babies.

Not unheard of but not exactly common either.
