online dating - first date

Need advice please! Been chatting to someone online and we're meeting up tomorrow night. This is my first online date and also my first date in over 12 years! So I need some advice please... what if he asks to walk me home. Is that a stupid thing to do? I'm only 10 mins walk from the pub. My mum is babysitting which he knows anyway. Also, do people kiss on first dates?!!

Hi

I wouldn't let someone walk me home. You don't know him but he would know where you live and you've no way of erasing that knowledge from his brain for the rest of his life if he turns out to be a bad'un.

Some people kiss on the first date. Some people don't. It largely depends on whether you like each other or not... and how each of you views it. It's up to you, basically. I have and I haven't.

trevortrevorslattery · 09/06/2014 17:09

No definitely don't let him walk you home.. or know where you live, yet!

He might turn out to be nice (my 2nd internet date is now my DH Grin) but it took a few weeks before I gave him my actual phone number and not just the number for my disposable-sim anti-stalker phone!

Kissing - I would peck on cheek, nothing more, but see how it goes for you!

Hope you have a lovely night!

Minime85 · 09/06/2014 17:14

No to walking you home and see how you feel re kiss. I've only been on one date too and also after similar time period to you. I pecked on cheek at first date and proper kiss second one!

Have a lovely time Smile

kentishgirl · 09/06/2014 17:26

Can you drive to pub to meet him? I know it's only a minute or two, but that lets him be a gent and walk you to your car, and off you go without him knowing where you live. It's something you can have a giggle over if the relationship progresses (remember my anti axe-murderer strategy?) but if it's a dud date or a weirdo you've kept your privacy.

kentishgirl · 09/06/2014 17:28

Kiss?

Mutual peck on cheek with one man, lunge for my lips by another man that I managed to swerve into a cheek peck, and no kiss but lots of awkward shuffling like a pair of silly 13 year olds with one who is now DP.

Entirely up to you.

Sassy777 · 09/06/2014 17:50

I feel quite nervous so need a glass of wine I think! So no to driving... also there isn't anywhere close to park.

Eek so excited though! This is the fifth guy I've chatted to online... One cancelled a date, one I got bored talking to, and the other 2 I cancelled the dates as I went off them lol.

Hope you have a lovely time and get on well Smile

Have you got your outfit sorted Wink

Sassy777 · 09/06/2014 19:40

Thinking a casual dress and pumps if it's as hot as it was today. Or skinny jeans and nice top!

handfulofcottonbuds · 09/06/2014 19:43

Good choice! I don't tend to go 'all out' and prefer the feminine but casual look for a first date. Whatever feels comfortable Smile

I can't believe I'm dating either!

Writerwannabe83 · 09/06/2014 19:44

On my first date I got very drunk, made him drive me to a 24 hour McDonalds and then he drove me home. I did kiss him when he dropped me off, but like I said, I was quite drunk Grin

I hope you have a lovely time!!!

Sassy777 · 10/06/2014 10:03

Thank you!

Another question I'm afraid... how do you greet your date? Peck on the cheek? Just a hello?

OP posts:
handfulofcottonbuds · 10/06/2014 13:43

Peck on the cheek but do whatever you feel comfortable with.

kentishgirl · 10/06/2014 16:21

Um, I did hello and a handshake. Does that sound weird?

Sassy777 · 10/06/2014 17:09

I might just say hello actually! Just in case something awkward happens lol.

I sound pathetic don't I!!

Exciting :)

I have had a few 'first dates' online dating. Am now married to the last one I met.

I let (now) DH peck me on the cheek as we said goodbye in the car park.

Not sure about the walking you home. Perhaps just say goodbye in the pub and set off first. To be honest I did get a lift home from two of my first dates - but I 'knew' that they were okay guys. I did end up dating them both (not at the same time) One for a couple of months, one for almost a year.

Dress however you feel comfortable. And don't get too drunk. It's best to stay a bit in control - and not end up talking total gibberish :)

Enjoy the date!

Sassy777 · 10/06/2014 23:11

It went really well!! He's really nice and we're seeing each other again over the weekend. I did the whole kiss on cheek thing at the end... He kissed me 3 times lol

Sassy777 · 10/06/2014 23:18

Sassy777 · 12/06/2014 07:15

Ahhhh thanks! He texted me yday saying he can't wait to see me again! Didn't think he'd be so keen really as I'm quite boring compared to him.
