child benefit changes

I am currently living with my partner but have recently found out he has been having an affair. I plan on leaving him but obviously there's a lot to sort out first with having a 2 year old son to think of as well. I am wanting everything in place so that I will be sorted when I tell him I'm leaving. The problem I have is that my partner claims the child benefit and I can't get accepted for council housing until I prove I have custody of my son. Will they change the child benefit into my name without any hassle if I phone them as I really don't want my partner finding out until everything is in place for me to leave. Thanks

Don't see why not, ask them to change it to your name and bank and to monthly as well depending on the dates. If he says anything say the government have changed everyone on to monthly payments

A few weeks ago I started work and made a new claim. I sent the form in with the WTC and payslips and was going to send in the CB letter when it came as I didn't have one to use . Claim went through without it within a week and my WTC claim bad only took 7 days

I think you'd need his permission? Otherwise lots of fathers could theoretically ring and change payments to them surely

It all seems very clandestine and, if you'll pardon the observation, you sound unusually frightened of the response of your partner when he finds out it's over. He shouldn't really have been claiming the CB in the first place... how did that come about? Is there more than cheating going on here? Does he hurt you or is he very controlling, for example?
