Superman top (long sleeved blue top with a big 'S' on the front)

would you dump him?

Forth date.

I'm horrified.

Yes, sometimes it's the small things you can't see past that demonstrate your general lack of interest. Obviously dh's statement hat wasn't quite embarrassing enough to stop his personality shining through Confused

Floggingmolly · 19/04/2014 20:42

You mean you were ok with the Snoopy, but Superman is a dealbreaker? Snoopy??

neiljames77 · 19/04/2014 20:45

If he's making you laugh generally, just ask him to tone it down a bit. If he's one of those who try too hard to be a "look at me, aren't I wacky?" then he'll eventually piss you off with it.

handfulofcottonbuds · 19/04/2014 20:48

I repeat - Snoopy??? Where do you even get Snoopy T shirts these days?

I'll admit to being a bit shallow too - please say he didn't tuck his Snoopy top into his jeans....

NK5BM3 · 19/04/2014 20:48

Just saw this post and wondered about the t shirts with superheroes etc.

I was in an upmarket dept store this afternoon and they were selling these superhero t shirts for £25. Grown up men ones. It had green lantern, superman, ironman and ... Elmo. My dh actually thought of getting one of these t shirts (not Elmo although it would totally match dd's hand me down Elmo t shirt from her brother!!). He's 37. I would have been ok tbh if he bought one. Is it really that bad taste??

ThatBloodyWoman · 19/04/2014 20:51

I would love a snoopy t shirt.
Snoopy rocks.

ThatBloodyWoman · 19/04/2014 20:54

Cowboy boots I could live with.

But not with those metal pointy things on his collar, one of those rope necklace things, and a stetson.

Even I would have to run a mile.

blueshoes · 19/04/2014 21:21

Call the style police

Ladyfoxglove · 19/04/2014 23:23

Grin although Snoopy was bad, it's the whole collection that has got to me iyswim and the need to display his 'funny bloke' credentials in such a manner.

OP posts:
neiljames77 · 19/04/2014 23:27

Then his displays are laboured. After a while, they'll turn from funny....... to tedious......... to "oh for fucks sake just grow up you big kid".

mummyOF4darlings · 19/04/2014 23:37

Sounds like this is his image tbh, and sounds like he just isnt your cup of tea

ScholesIsGod · 19/04/2014 23:37
Grin

He sounds one of those "I'm mental, me" types. I don't think you like him that much, so a guilt-free dump I think.

Seriously, whoever started the whole settle for someone you're finding excruciating you might fall in love with his lovely personality movement is a sadist.

All over the free world, women are 'giving someone a chance' and finding that after an evening of bad one-liners, 'funny' anecdotes and praying desperately that no-one they know spots them they are not in love, just an evening closer to death.

I want to know what you've worn!

Simplesusan · 20/04/2014 10:23

No I wouldn't find him attractive and the point of dating is to find out if you are attracted to someone.

I agree with schoolers, it's not your job to give every nobhead who comes along a chance.

My ex, after I had told him I disliked slogan type t shirts, came home with an expensive t shirt that said "fuck this let's get shit faced."

Even the dcs were aghast.

Legologgo · 20/04/2014 10:24

you see if he was funny and rich i could put up with a tum

mansize · 20/04/2014 12:28

I don't see what's wrong with him wearing this t-shirt. What did you wear? A long skirt, sensible shoes and a polo-neck?You say 46 is too old for that sort of thing. I thought we were past this 'mutton dressed as lamb' nonsense.

Fair enough if you don't like his style but ripping the piss out of him here is just nasty.

Bifauxnen · 20/04/2014 12:41

All his t-shirt choices sound good to me. and like stuff I would wear Blush i disapprove of the jacket though. If I found him funny I could forgive a few small sartorial crimes

LuluJakey1 · 20/04/2014 19:17

My OH has pretty awful dress sense. His favourite shirt, which he thinks is really 'cool' is hideous; sort of faded red with small white flowers. All of his clothes, smart ones included, look like they need ironing (they are ironed). His shirts are always hanging out and his tie, if he wears one, is always wonky. He could do with losing weight too but carries it pretty well 'cos he's tall and broad. If I let him he would live in a Bradford City strip. God knows why I find him so attractive but there you go!

UtterFool · 20/04/2014 19:44

I started out thinking it would be a deal breaker but if a date turned up looking like Wonder Woman (Linda Carter) then I'm not so sure.

Anyway, if I were trying to dress for a date then I definitely wouldn't be turning up in a superman tee. Bit too casual imho

ScrambledEggAndToast · 20/04/2014 19:47

Hmm, my DP hasn't got the best taste in clothes. Think 34 year old man in 54 year old man's clothes Grin However, I wouldn't swap him for anybody in the world as he is the loveliest, kindest person ever. If you are that bothered about the top then he obviously isn't right for you.

RaptorInaPorkPieHat · 20/04/2014 20:00

oh dear

DH has an extensive superhero T shirt collection (but he is the sheldon-esque cartoony geeky type). When he's not wearing those he's wearing one of his extensive collection of rugby shirts - He's very easy to buy for Grin

Obviously, not a deal breaker for me.

scarletforya · 20/04/2014 20:09

RayPurchase Grin brilliant!

LuluJakey1 · 20/04/2014 20:19

TBH if he's kind and funny and a good kisser you could forgive him the awful Superman top.

CarryOnDancing · 20/04/2014 23:03

Give the man a break. Long sleeves are formal attire for superheroes!

Seriously though, I'm guessing he has weekend kids and he shops with them? Maybe he's a really great family guy and would openly admit to having no fashion sense. He may happily let you dress him...if you can get over the tummy.
