Opinions on FB please

Nothing to do with errant partners, just generally.

I've around 50 FB 'friends' most of whom have asked me to be a friend. But I just don't use FB really. I'm not into all the fluff of putting up pics of my DCs, or my new sofa, or telling people I've just had my dinner. But at the same time I worry that some of my 'friends'- half of whom I've never met but know through my work remotely- will think I'm unfriendly. Sometimes I need to ask favours of them for work ( same type of employment) and wonder if they judge me on whether I've replied to their FB posts etc.

Is there any way round this- like 'I'm not ignoring you, I just don't really use FB these days.'

Clearly my real friends are not on FB in the main, and we meet or pick up the phone when we have something to say.

Anyone else?

Most likely those people have lots of fb friends and won't notice if you reply or not.

If you don't use it, just remove your profile. Then no one can get cross at you not replying.

In reality, they probably don't notice. People don't really use FB for proper contact too much do they?

I don't think anyone judges you for being on FB but not really participating in FB, IYSWIM. I'm similar to you - I have little flurries of "this is a photo of us on holiday" activity and then nothing for ages. And when I do put up a holiday pic or whatever I don't ever really register who's liked it or who's commented.

I wouldn't worry about it too much OP, especially as your main friends are outside of it. If you don't use FB much, then if anyone asks just tell them you don't really use it much.

I was never into all that fluff either of posting up pics of myself in my Speedos on the beach, so in the end I deleted my profile.

I wouldn't worry. FB seems to be dying a death really. Most people I know are bored with it an only look at their news feed every now and then apart from my dsis

Don't use it for this then, just use it to talk to your friends and colleagues, or just delete it all together. You don't have to have a fb account.

I got rid of facebook (fakebook) years ago because there is so much drama attached to whether you reply to a message or whether you are bragging in your pictures and statues. One upmanship and all that. I didn't use it much at all anyway so it was no loss.

I think you are over thinking this. The FB friends I have who don't respond to my posts, just don't use FB that much or don't have anything to say about what I have posted. There is no big deal with that at all! My friends are grown ups, so no dramas or attention seeking posts, just friendly chat, banter and information. I enjoy the contact I have with people on FB, but don't make any judgement about the people who don't join in.
