Changing name - need opinions

I need soem opnions on name chaning.

At the moment I use my maiden name mostly, DS has my maiden name as a third middle name and DH surname. DS is actually registered at his GP under my surname as i was the patient and they automatically put my surname down for him

We would like to have ONE family surname but havn't been able to decide. Here are our options:

I keep maiden name, DH keeps his surname and DS keeps Dh surname (we change GP records)

I start using DH surname (have to change bank details/ passport etc)

DH takes my surname

We double barrel the names (sounds a bit weird with our combination)

DH takes my maiden name as a middle name

We all take an amalgamation name - Berry would combine both our surnames

We take a new surname entirely (we both like a couple of old family surnames, Summerbell and Burns)

I have the deed poll forms, we just need to make a decision!

If I was brave enough and wasn't offending either family, I would love to have a brand new surname. I adore Summerbell! That would be my choice.

It would be lovely to choose a family name that had maybe died out. Summerbell is nice

TBH, I think I'd rather go with one of our own names than start using others. Changing names on bank details, passports and driving licences etc is pretty quick, easy and painless. I've done it twice - once when I changed my surname to my mothers maiden name by deed poll (orig surname was my estranged wanker fathers), then again when I married DH.

In our case DH and I are quite attached to our own names and one family surname isn't particularly significant, so we've just stuck with our own names. But if you are all happy with the idea and given that having one family surname is important to you then I would go for the amalgamation name or one of the old family surnames. Hmm... probably the amalgamation name -- not too long, not too short, easy to spell, easy to pronounce, plus with a clear connection to both sides of the family.

One of the reasons we were looking at old family names was to try and mollify the families!

We both like Summerbell alot but then we hit the problem of choosing a family name from just one side of the family! Grrrrr

So here are the actual list of possible names:
Broome
Terry
Summerbell
Dakum
Burns
Berry
Toome (DH insists we keep it in the list although i think its bloody morbid)
Burns
