So I was meant to be leaving work at 4pm today (instead of 6). It takes 1.5 hours to get home (don’t ask) and we’ve got a table booked later on. Plan was for a soak, a change and then to go out with no rushing.
I’ve just text at 3.59 to say I’m logging off and he said that he’s ordered flowers and can I wait for them. He said it’ll be by 6.30pm at latest so we have to meet in town and I can’t change etc. I look a total scruff!

I sound so ungrateful… but it’s really annoyed me. Now I’ll be rushing and won’t be able to get ready. We’ve both been so nackered and grumpy for the last couple of weeks was really looking forward to being able to relax and take my time.

I know it’s nothing in comparison to other people’s problems… but it’s just put me in a bad mood. They’ll also get squashed on the rammed Tube later as well if I have to meet much longer.

Also, I’m in a new job where I don’t know any one. It’s a bit of bitchy place and I’m worried I’ll look like a total fool when they arrive. Especially when I immediately leg it out of the door with the flowers.

Happy Valentines Day everyone!

PS Please don’t all tell me off – I know it’s a kind gesture just an unnecessary one.

Please enjoy your evening. I get why it's annoying but I'd LOVE to be going out for an evening and I'd LOVE to be getting in the tube with a bunch of flowers. Enjoy it :)

mammadiggingdeep · 14/02/2014 20:16

Ps- Hope you have fun and your flowers don't get squashed!!

"an act someone does for you that you didn't want them to do and tried to avoid having them do, but they went ahead anyway, determined to do you a favour; then things went horribly wrong exactly as you expected and caused you a lot of trouble, however social conventions require you to express gratitude."

Love that

Hello - so they arrived at 5pm. The bitchy girls rolled their eyes and one said 'oh that's original' (I told you!!). They got kicked and smacked and bashed in to on the tube / in the station (they were in a massive box).
DP was waiting for me at station and drove me (disheveled and still not sure why he didn't just get a nice bouquet from m&s) and the flowers home where he had a run me a bath.
Didn't have time to wash hair so I went a bit mad with the hairspray and dry shampoo and did a messy up do. Had time to sit and splash about and put on a face mask.

Very very politely said that my new office isn't the kind where people say 'oh that's nice' or offer to take photos of you with your present (like my old office) so prob isn't worth doing again and he said that he should have just bought some - felt a bit of a bitch but at least I don't have to worry about this happening again. What a waste of money! Haha.

Sorry for whingeing all and thanks for advice (going to put a bottle of dry shampoo and my spare straighteners etc so i can get ready at work if I'm caught late again. The box was bloody MASSIVE - completely impractical and OTT. Couldn't have taken them to restaurant would have looked ridiculous!

PS the intetflora box got kicked on the tube, not the bitchy office girls (mores the pity).
PPS the box was massive, the flowers weren't (just in case it looks like I was now moaning that I had too many flowers after all that).

Keep the DP, loose the office! Grin

legoqueen · 15/02/2014 12:51

The bitchy girls sound horrible. Sounds like DH did his best though!

tribpot · 15/02/2014 12:52

one said 'oh that's original'

Ha ha - next year I would tell him to get you a barbershop quartet. And pay them to sing for AN ENTIRE HOUR whilst the office is busy. That comment is beyond bitchy - what is the office like to work in most of the time?

I don't think you need to feel bad for pointing out to him (kindly) how stupid his gift was :) If nothing else, you can point out diamonds are a much more practical gift for Tube journeys. Wink

WhateverTrevor83 · 15/02/2014 12:56

Haha - I work on contracts so won't be there much longer (til may). I find I need the horrid offices to appreciate the nice ones! They are just very miserable girls - a pity when they are young and have good jobs. It's a bit like school.

Nevermind - I took comfort in knowing they were probably watching The a Notebook on their own all evening and crying in to their couldrons ;-)

A barber shop quartet - would love that! (Like in Friends!) at least I wouldn't have had to take them on the bastard tube with me haha x

Or a person who sings you a romantic message while dressed in a silly costume (like a monkey or cupid). Mwhahahaha! Think of the choice!

Bogeyface · 16/02/2014 14:18

"Oh thats original"
"Yes, isnt it? After all, no one else in the office got any flowers did they?!"

BananaPassionFruit · 16/02/2014 14:36

Whatever I did initially think that you meant that the office girls had been kicked in Smile
Amazing how man can get things so wrong when they are obviously trying to hard to 'wow & delight', huh? Hope you had a lovely evening nevertheless and that you will soon be in a new (better) work environment! Grin

Have a sudden almost irresistible urge to change my posting name to ArigataMeiwaku.

WhateverTrevor83 · 16/02/2014 19:56

Lol bogey yeah had a bit of a cry yesterday afternoon - the office is making me feel really crap. There's a gang of young and bitchy girls who are always giggling and whispering, it's like bloody school!
Friday night was lovely and we had a laugh about the size of the box. It was ridiculous! About five times the size of the flowers.

Thanks for being so nice about it ladies - was worried if be told to stop moaning! Haha x
