Attraction?

Hi, my first post but I'm a long time lurker. About a year ago I started working with a guy in the same company but a different office at the other end of the country. We hit it off and things have slowly been progressing, and we are now at the stage where we skype and talk on the phone quite a bit.

Our conversations have started to get a bit risqué and we've talked about meeting up.

So my question is this - I really fancy him and he seems to fancy me. How likely is it that when we meet there won't be any spark? I don't want to lead him on, neither do I want to be rejected. I just don't know whether it's worth the risk and can't decide what to do.

Go for it. The worst that can happen is it turns out to be a little bit awkward, but at least you'll know.
On the other hand, it could turn out to be the best night you've had in a long time.

Thanks! I really want to meet him, and if his conversation is anything to go by, it will be great. Just the distance means either or both of us will have to travel a fair way. I guess I don't want to feel like I can't say no if the spark isn't there. Don't get me wrong, he says he won't expect anything and will be happy to go with whatever I want. Guess I just need to be brave!

Have you met him in person yet or just via phon eand email?Do you know what he looks like?

You have nothing to loose, it's not like you will see him every day if there is no spark right!

My personal experience -

Talked with DP online before ever meeting him. First time we met for coffee, he was very nervous, and I think that threw me off. He had traits which I normally found attractive, but his nerves I think made him seem a bit older (which was a bit of an issue, as we had a large age gap and I wasn't sure how I felt about it yet). Loved talking to him but I didn't know if the 'spark' was there.

Second date, met for a movie, held hands throughout and that was all it took. Sparks all over the place, like I didn't believe happened in the real world. We fell very in love very quickly.

Give it a chance, op. You'll never know if you don't try. It could be fantastic.

Looking at it from his point of view, I'd suggest meeting somewhere halfway between where you live, find a nice restaurant but say I can't have a drink because I'm driving back. If the evening is going really well, I'd have a drink and stay over at a travelodge or something.

On the online dating thread they say "Progress to meet-up ASAP" and "It's all bollocks until something happens". Definitely meet up, but don't be too invested!

Thanks for all your input. We finally met this week and at first I thought he really wasn't my type at all, which made me question everything. Luckily we had to work together for a few days and I was able to see the bloke I thought I knew. He blew me away! I'm so happy and he seems to be too!

I met DH online and it was a similar nervous first meet, very odd when you've spoken so much, but then it was all positives.

That's really nice. Two friends of mine worked in different parts of the country for the same firm. They both chatted to guys they grew to really like over the telephone and finally met up. One of my friends ended up marrying the chap and they now has two DC. The other friend met the guy and it went really badly. At one point he tried to steal her purse. Needless to say she hot footed it quickly.
