Help with the early stages of dating.

Ive had 5 dates with a lovely man over 3 weeks and I like him. Its far too early to have any discussion over ' where is this going' but at the same time I really want to know where its going. Not as in ' are we long term' but just more in a ' are we exclusive' kind of thing.

We are in contact most days, we have a date half organised for Friday and I expect details will be firmed up nearer the time.

I go from being all happy and excited to feeling like he doesnt really like me and is likely to cancel in the course of the day.

I know most of it is par of the course, you dont know the person well enough to know what they are thinking and neither of you want to say what you are thinking yet either.

But, does anyone have any advice on dealing with this phase?

Keep your powder dry. It's only three weeks no matter how many dates you've had. Just enjoy his company in many different contexts and don't worry about the future. You can't control it.

Being old-fashioned, I always assume it's exclusive from the off. :) if they cancel, you have to have the confidence to shrug your shoulders and think 'their loss'. You don't sound like you're comfortable taking the initiative. Maybe that would make you feel more in control? The date that is 'half-organised' for Friday, for example. Why aren't you firming it up? Why are you waiting by the phone for some bloke to tell you what to do? Quick text.... 'Are we on for Friday or not?'... and maybe a hint that you have other things you could be doing.
