Has anyone done couple counselling?

Was it effective? Am at the end if the road with my marriage but want to feel I've done everything possible to fix things. No abuse, just a long relationship we've both given less and less to since having kids.

The best thing about relationship counselling is that each partner can (and almost always does) talk at length while the other just sits there and listens.

The presence of the counsellor (usually) ensures that both partners behave properly and accord each other the appropriate courtesy and respect during the discussion. No interrupting. No talking over each other. No snide remarks. No coming to blows.

The amazing thing is that, even after donkeys' years of being together, a session of this nature will very often teach each partner a LOT they never knew about how the other sees and feels about the situation.

Highly recommended.

I think if you dont try it you will always wonder if it would it wouldn't have helped. ex h and I went but only twice as neither of us liked it at all. I didn't like counsellor and maybe we should have given it longer but I knew working with her wouldn't do any good. also it was £45 a time and I was working part time then too and finances were very tight. they did reduce to £39 I think it was when I said finance was an issue.

but I do think you might kick yourselves if u didn't at least investigate it. lots of other people speak very highly of it.
