There are some parallels yes. I think the differences are significant though - generally victims of dv are not vulnerable adults (in the sense of having considerablt learning difficulties) and also that they are not physically constrained from leaving (although they are often constrained in other ways).
The advice that is often given to victims of dv here on Mumsnet - gather your important papers, hide money, ring Women's Aid, call the police, tell him to leave, make a plan - this guy could do none of those things.
He had no way to help himself so I'd say his position was more similar to an abused child than a victim of 'common or garden' dv.
Those are my feelings, anyway.
