Viewing money as love

Trying to work out my own relationship with money. Love often expressed through money growing up. Don't particularly want to expand but have any of you had experiences like this and how have you managed to disassociate the two?

When I was growing up I thought I'd like to be rich. So I made a lot of money and bought everything that I thought I ever wanted.

Turns out things are just things. Money is convenient, it can be invested productively both practically and morally, it relieves some stresses whilst causing others, but it most certainly, definitely is not love.
