Family...meh

I am the youngest and only girl and have 3 older brothers. I'm 31.

One of my brothers lives in London and has a little girl.

Now, he's coming to visit the family tomorrow and I am expected to attend for a meal and drinks.

Is it bad that I just can't be bothered? It's not that I don't love my family but I prefer to use my weekends spending time with friends and my girlfriend. We have never been a particularly close family and he was a bit of a bully when we were younger - he's lovely now.

I did not meet him when he came down previously, made up an excuse.

Am I being mean? Is there something wrong with me for not wanting to do this?

Also, I am on the bones of my ass and can't afford to eat and drink all afternoon.

Thanks

:)

Nope, nothing wrong with that at all. I'm the same with my siblings, if they weren't family we wouldn't know each other because we move in completely different social circles.

Some folk say blood is thicker than water, but I'm not so sure.

This is yet another reason why I'm glad to be an only child.

You're not unreasonable, plan something nice with friends and family, it's your weekend, they are precious, spend it doing things that make you happy, not other people.

Should I make an excuse?

When I told my other brother I may not go he did a double take in shock.

The thing is, the 2 eldest always get together and have a cosy little meet before the obligatory meeting of the rest of the family...yeah fuck it.

I'm the black sheep anyway so this won't matter :)

Thanks Guys

I like your style. Have a lovely family-free weekend!

DH's family never did big get togethers. Just 'popped in' for half an hour, caught up with the news, said lovely to see you, popped off again. Much cheaper and less stressful.
