New partners

How do you cope when an ex starts a new relationship when you have children together?

How & when did he tell you? Did the new partner move in and how did the children take it? How did it work out?

Likewise if you met a new partner at what point did you tell your ex? How did he take it? Were there problems?

And what about everyone meeting each other? Did you? Or do you not see his new partner? Does he see yours?

Sorry for so many questions? I'm just thinking about the future and trying to think about potential issues.

Hi there. It's a tough question to answer because everyone's situations are different. I met a new partner within 6 months of my marriage split but as he lived overseas it wasn't really ever an issue. ExH found a new partner about 3 years after our divorce and didn't tell me for a while but I didn't mind as it wasn't my business really. I've had one other LTR since but it didn't work out although when that relationship was 'active' both ExH and his new partner socialised occasionally with me and then DP as we still have mutual friends who haven't taken sides. Think my case is slightly unusual though ;-)

Ex was giving me a lift somewhere and we were chatting and he told me he was going on a first date later with a woman he met online. I bumped into her leaving his flat the next day so I knew it had gone well :) They now live together.

Can't remember at what point I told him about mine. He didn't care either way.

Yes, we've both each other's new partners.

Everyone is different though. For us, it was a genuine non-issue on both sides.

My ex did whatever he fancied. He introduced our DDs to her without telling me, despite me asking him to wait a while longer. I found out from the DDs "oh today we met x". Nice

I waited waaayyyy longer to introduce them to my exp.

Depends on how much of a twat sensible person your ex is.

I meant to say we both took a very long time to introduce anyone to our DC and they are fine with my ex living with his new partner (50/50 shared care). There was a bit of a hiccup about the way he introduced DC, but it was a while ago now.

My ex was having an affair. As soon as he was discovered he took dd2 to meet her, way too early.

My dcs told ex about my new partner.

I don't give two hoots as to what he thinks.

Thanks everyone. How have your children adapted to new partners? I'm so worried about messing my kids heads up that this is really worrying me. They've both dealt incredibly well with out separation but I'm particularly worried about how my dd (11) will cope in the future if new partners come on the scene. I suspect it won't be long before ex introduces one.
