Delaying Menstrual Cycle

Hi I have also posted in health with this.

My period is due, smack bang in the middle of a planned weekend away. It's in two weeks time and I would like to halt my period for the duration of the weekend.

I know it's entirely possible using drugs but has anyone any experience of this? How will it feel (if anything) and apparently it could make me feel bloated and kill my libido - which kind of defeats the object! Just wondering whether it's worth it?

Doctors can prescribe you norethisterone I'd imagine (5mg) you can look up side effects. To put it into context some minipills contain around 350mcg. If you consider their side effects...then I assume 5mg (more than 10 x as much) is gonna have...worse side effects. Lots of women use it, though.

Dirtybadger · 01/11/2013 11:05

Are you on an contraceptive? Some you can just take back to back (them break) to stall a period.

Dirtybadger · 01/11/2013 11:06

Argh *on an oral contraceptive.

chansondumatin · 01/11/2013 11:08

I've taken norethisterone lots of times - only side effect I remember is that my period was a bit heavier/more painful when it eventually arrived, but nothing really awful. I just made sure I had plenty of Nurofen in stock....

QuizTeamAguilera · 01/11/2013 11:23

No, I'm not on the pill and never have been. I'm off to the doctor shortly and think I will get a prescription and at least I have it if I decide I want to take it.

Thanks chansondumatin your experience sounds fine.

I was prescribed Norsthisterone 10mg earlier this year. All the PMT symptoms arrived on time, just the period that was delayed. Hmm

BOOsterseat · 01/11/2013 11:35

Prior to being on the pill I asked my GP who gave me a course of tablets to prevent my period when completing in a swimming competition abroad.

Many moons ago but i took 1 tablet 3 times a day and had no side effects.

Cant say if it caused libido issues tbh, i was 12!

Thisisaghostlyeuphemism · 01/11/2013 11:48

I used norethisterone for the first time this summer. It was brilliant! I wish I had discovered it years ago! No bloating, no libido issue at all.

QuizTeamAguilera · 01/11/2013 12:27

Just back from the GP. She says it will be OK for me and that they routinely prescribe it for young girls, with no adverse effects.
