Mad with my mum

I know she is 70 and thinks she is getting down with the kids is all good but telling my teenagers how I was at their age is so unhelpful.For 1 it is providing them with some ammunition as well as kind of giving it approval.I have turned out ok though and I think that is what she is getting at but I need to broach this with her before I implode.

I always thought that's what parents were for i.e. to embarrass their kids and prick any self-righteous pomposity. :) What makes you think they won't learn from your mistakes?

Its only unhelpful for you!!! Your mum may have noticed that your dcs need to hear that you are human, or you need to remember that teenagers grow up OK. I think its normal grannie behaviour and you will do the same when your turn comes - relax

I have the problem that DM was so much more "out there!" than I was at the same age, and I was horrible. We went to alternative clubs from when I was 14YO.

So, I tell them, "don't try anything, cos I did it. Don't take anything, cos I did it and it was horrible"

And I already know what you are thinking, cos I did it already.

My grandmother used to tell me brilliant stories about my mum that she never would have told me her self. We used to get her to tell them to us over and over. Sadly I lost my mum a few years ago so she can't do the same for my kids. Perhaps she wants to let your kids know that they're not the first to be teenagers

OP My mum hasn't actually done that yet but I do worry about it there are some very good points already made and the fact that my DS is here and what we are going through now has been a very good lesson already of my DS learning from my mistakes even at his tender age, it is actually very heartwarming.
