Shift work

My DH works shifts. I hate them. I have a full time job and this week I haven't seen him at all because he leaves before I get home. I know that there are many, many other families that experience this but I miss not having anyone to talk to at night. Can't go out because the kids are in bed. Do other shift work partners feel the same or am I selfish?

No, not selfish at all! I work shifts myself when at work and I hate not seeing my dp in the evenings. Even though I'm busy at work and should be fully occupied I miss chatting to him. I would be a bit sad if I thought my dp didn't miss me so maybe I'm the selfish one .

Thanks LaDiDaDi. I suppose I've never really thought that he had time to miss me too when he's at work. But maybe I should realise that he's feeling the same as me!

Definitely not selfish

My DP works days/afternoons/nights on an horrendous rota - he only gets one weekend off in every 4. He does get at least 1 day off in the week but that's no good to us because, like you, I work full-time 8-5. I used to go out when he was at work but his dd moved in with us 2.5 months ago so that's not an option any more

I've come to the conclusion now that we just have to make the most of the time that we do have together

My dh liked me working shifts before we had DS because it gave us our own space. Now though, he's not so keen. I like it because I see DS more often. I usually have a really good roster of 4 on, 4 off fo 8 weeks then 18 days off. I've had loads of changes this year so it hasn't been so good. I would hate to work normal days, purely because I'm not used to it.
