Weird call- any ideas

Just noticed I had a missed call on my mobile 00.49 this morning. Could see it was a local number so did the old 141 and it was my car garage. I have recently only had work done, guy seems really nice but just in a friendly way. Still this is a work number so surely he would not be there at that time, could it be an automated call. Any ideas?

It could be totally innocent.

A few weeks ago my phone was on the shelf with nothing near it and it bizarrely dialled a random number from my contact list (it was the home number of an old friend from yrs ago - I rarely clear out numbers).

I don't know why/what/how it did it but it was embarrassing trying to explain at 11.45 at night to her husband what had occurred.

Sorry if my post upset you OrchidLady but since you'd posted it in the Relationships section of MN, rather than, say Chat, I thought you were wondering if he was interested in you in that way, and had called to chat/ask you out.
I definitely didn't mean to cause any offence. Sorry again. Blush

herdy oh goodness not upset in the slightest. Just used to posting in relationships. Could go on a rant about mine right now but done with all that for now.
pancake blimey, phones can be weird. I remember many years ago coming back from holiday and walking in the door and police were on the phone saying we had just called 999. Impossible as no one in the house and pre mobile. They would not have it and gave me a right ticking off for wasting police time. Never could understand that one.

something like that happened to me recently - in that, I was trying to hang up on someone, and somehow pressed 'dial' and dialed someone else's number... except not sure how it was that someone since they were not an 'A' (as in top of the alphabet) or a 'recently dialled' number.

I frantically tried to stop the call but obviously it'd dialed. Next thing I knew, the number rang back - it was the husband of an acquaintance...and thankfully he also had my number down and knew it was me. Still it was very strange as the last time we spoke was perhaps a year ago!!

My phone lit up on my desk yesterday for no apparent reason. No missed call or text when I checked.

I think we all have haunted phones.

The other day the electrician said the message from the letting agents only came through in the middle of the night, when it had been sent at 9am.

And someone I sold something to on ebay managed to call me when testing her phone the next day. I got worried in case something was wrong with the item. No, she said. Just testing my phone Hmm

I often get calls at weird and wonderful times - and from the strangest people - as my name starts with an "A" meaning I'm often the first person saved in contacts.

I've had former colleagues, elderly relatives, my MP and even a proper, famous film actor call!

FrancescaBell · 03/10/2013 15:07

You say you've not really thought about him in that way but c'mon, that's not true is it?

Are you married or in a relationship then- and you're having discomfort having these thoughts about a reasonably kind car mechanic?

Because honestly, if it's none of that, I'm clueless about why a random misdial would even be bothering you, even if it was at 1 a.m. So much so, that you started a thread in relationships about it Confused.

I once called a plumber from my handbag while on a day out - his number was in my recently called list and I'd chucked my phone in my bag and then lent on it.

It happens. I wouldn't think anything of it.

frances oh err missus. I have already replied to your post, I always tend to post here. Many people have come up many plausible ideas, so really not a problem. Just did not occur to me really that phones call by themselves or as suggested by accident. That is the point of posting to get others input is it not. Nothing more sinister than that. last post was not a serious one.

My new phone has a touch sensitive screen, and more than once I've put it in my pocket without locking the screen properly.

I have called 7777777777777, who didn't answer. But I've also dialled numbers which are at the top of my call log, i.e. recently received and recently dialled. I'm getting better at not doing this, but I like to think I'm not the only idiot to whom this happens.
