I've been asked to do two 'me-time' things for ten mins a day

But what?

The idea is that twice a day I wind down for ten minutes doing something I enjoy.

I'm not doing well!! Apparently ironing doesn't count. I'm not sure I want to confess my mumsnet habit to the counsellor just yet. Online shopping is out of my budget.

I've tried a cup of tea and a book but before I knew it I was doing the ironing instead. Hmm

DP isn't here so I can't ask for a back rub or front rub so what can I do?

Sit down cross legged and repeat nice things about yourself.

I like myself.
I am a good person.
I'm great and people like me.

Etc. ?

ceeveebee · 29/09/2013 22:14

Take up knitting?
Have a bath?
Learn a language - BBC website or you can get CDs or on iTunes?

defineme · 29/09/2013 22:17

I would be in the bath with a lot of bubbles and a book.
You can have a front rub on your own you know!

I would read, watch the 2 box sets that I can't seem to get round to, phone a friend, write a list of positive to dos.

Listen to a meditation cd? Face mask? Give yourself a manicure/pedicure? Tidy your make up? Phone a friend? Read a chapter of a book. Organise a night out with friends?

FreeAtLastAtLongLast · 29/09/2013 22:19

Paint your nails! It will prevent you from tackling the ironing Wink

Bubble bath is a good one too, as again, you can't do much else Grin

WahIzzit · 29/09/2013 22:21

Some easy stretching exercises
A cup of tea and a trashy celeb mag
Phone a friend
Online social networking on facebook/twitter etc
A drive in the car (with no kids screaming in the back)
Soak your feet in a footspa thingy or any similar shaped tub will do, slap on a face mask and relax
Breathing exercises/yoga
Watch some telly
Dance! Get ur favourite cd on and shake your booty :-D

AndMiffyWentToSleep · 29/09/2013 22:21

I really need to do this too! Maybe we should be me-time buddies!
I don't get distracted by ironing but cooking, washing and those sorts of things.
I'm going to try reading, having a cuppa and just sitting, or...can't think what else. I work at a computer so want screen-free time. Are we allowed to do exercise? really wanna sort out my bingo wings.

If you need a bit of a wind down, the Headspace app free meditations were quite nice: www.getsomeheadspace.com/

savemefromrickets · 29/09/2013 22:51

Thank you for the suggestions, I shall work through them.

What I really did was paint my nails. Tidied up some paperwork on the way to the bathroom. Straightened the bed. Got a grip. Painted my nails. Remembered that I can't do the bloody things (missing that girl gene) and the last time I went for a back massage I was mortified to be told there was a free foot massage so I lied and told the girl that my 6 year old had done them for me. Got stressed and swore at my feet.

I think I need to practice at me-time Grin

Learn to roller skate
Meditate
Play patience
Do nothing

Enjoy.

Nail painting is not a gene rickets, it's years of practice :) If you miss, just scrape the shreds off your fingers and cuticles in the shower when the main varnish has hardened!
