my dentist touched an ignored part in my heart

Hi,
I just went to the dentist recently and he was so good and cool. He didn't play music during my treatment and I loved it because his voice was a real music talking to me at every step as a patient. I know he is only doing his job but he do it with love and care and that what made his visit so good. Anyway, I cannot deny he made my week because I felt someone in this world is so caring and soft. The moment he touched my lips and cheek to wipe them , he touched an ignored part in my heart. I had no real love or relation before. That day I wanted to hug him warmly to say thanks you recognized me as a human who deserve gentle care. When I went back home , he was in my thoughts as a good caring person . I want to thank him by sending a card or gift. Is it appropriate? I just want to appreciate his goodness. What do you think?

Regards

Monique2013 · 28/09/2013 21:53

Thanks op , you have just made my day!

VitoCorleone · 28/09/2013 21:58

That just made me cry with laughter, thank you OP, fucking brillant

Choccy84 · 28/09/2013 22:02

Not sure why people are finding this funny unless I'm missing something! Yes it's a slightly unusual post but I can understand where the OP is coming from. I think it's known as the Florence Nightingale effect, where someone shows you kindness as part of their job but it means a lot to you. I once got a crush on a doctor who was particularly sweet to me!

Given what the dentists in this thread have been saying I'd think its fine to send a thank you card, as long as you don't go into too much detail about how you felt as it might be a bit inappropriate.

I hope one day when you're ready you can find someone to show you love again

Gingerandcocoa · 28/09/2013 22:04

I hope this doesn't come across as patronising but OP you seem absolutely adorable. I truly hope you find someone who touches your heart in that way and much more :) it sounds like you deserve it!

I am surprised that a box of chocs is a good thing to give people who work in a dentists.
Although I.guess most people love chocolate and it probably provides a lot of business for dentists.
Still seems weird though.

ImATotJeSuisUneTot · 28/09/2013 22:18

Dentists are people.

People like chocolate.

BIL is a dentist. They are all in to chocolate, wine and bum sex. I'd offer him one of those.

MajesticWhine · 28/09/2013 22:29

I cried last time I was at the dentist. I was feeling a little fragile and he was very kind about it. But I felt no need to give him anything more than the large debit card payment due.

stiffstink · 28/09/2013 22:29

My dentist is fit. I have had the hots for him for 17 years. He's a bit tubby now, but still a hotty.c

Pagwatch · 28/09/2013 22:29

I have a local barista that makes me fel a bit like that.
I find a lie down and a bun helps.

AKissIsNotAContract · 28/09/2013 22:32

expatinscotland · 29/09/2013 01:16

I live for this shit! Wink

expatinscotland · 29/09/2013 01:17

My dentist is a woman, therefore, my life sucks.

YouHaveAGoodPoint · 29/09/2013 01:29

My dentist is always too busy touching the ignored parts of my bank account for me to think fondly of him.

Onesleeptillwembley · 29/09/2013 02:06

If you're interested, OP, I'd wait until you've done puberty. And stop reading the mills and boon and do your homework.

noslimbody · 29/09/2013 02:37

hahahahaha!

DeckSwabber · 29/09/2013 09:10

My dentist is lovely. Once he told me I was a really good patient (because I sit still) and I was like a puppy with two tails all day.

I think its because you have to completely trust your dentist and the good ones understand that.

I was scared of the dentist I had as a child. He was like an angry parent.

calmingtea · 29/09/2013 09:27

I don't see OPs post as a crush. I remember when I left my marriage which was incredibly unhappy and devoid of any sort of affection for years, any adult person I met who gave me either any form of physical contact or emotional - surprised me, I realised that I had lived without another adult being even slightly interested in me in any form. So going to an optician or dentist where someone was physically caring for me, was a shock. I would leave with a feeling of cravings for contact, like a drug. Definitely not a crush or anything romantic. For me, it was a symptom of how neglected I had allowed myself to become in my relationship.

Saying that OP, it is not suitable to write and thank your dentist. Just find some way to look after yourself better.

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 29/09/2013 09:30

Deck When I was 6 I went to the dentist for a filling. I was terrified. Apparently he got really angry and ended up physically holding me down Sad

intheduskwiththelightbehindher · 29/09/2013 10:39

Seriously - just say thank you in a card. it is his job to make people feel comfortable during treatment. THAT'S IT.
To the rest of you - pahahaha!

TooManyDicksOnTheDancefloor · 29/09/2013 10:54

I think you should send a card. I told my anaethsatist that I would marry him, if I wasn't already married, when he put in my spinal for an emergency section. He came to see me before he left work to check I was ok and to see the baby, he really was a lovely person. I still feel a bit of love for him!

My dentist is hot! I think he's from South America, he's got the most amazing piercing blue eyes.
