My dh and I live in Gloucestershire. We have recently retired and our children live in Devon, Birmingham and Gloucester. My parents are in Birmingham. We are seriously thinking of moving to Fife, but feel guilty about moving away from everybody. I'd be intereated in other people's thpughtss

Why Fife? Sounds chilly.

Why Fife?

Regardless of where you go, it would be being distant from parents that might become inconvenient. Kids can look after themselves. I haven't lived within 200 miles of my parents for the last 30 years but, in recent times as they've got older and their health is failing, it's proving to be difficult being so far away.

Yes it's my parents i'm most concerned about, but i am one of three, so i'm thinking it might spread the load. (east Fife is really nice)

I think, once you get past about 40 miles away ('popping round' distance) it doesn't actually matter if you're in Fife or Fiji.

Will your family actually travel to Fife to visit you, or will you be always the ones doing the visiting? Are you originally from that area?

carlajean · 23/09/2013 09:21

Yes, that's what i was thinking cogito. I'm hoping people will visit, but of course you never know. We have no links to the area, but find it exciting to think of having a complete change, while being concious of 'if not now, then when?' we have moved area in the past, but because of work, so this feels very different.
