does your dp/dh pick you up?

do you mind? dh's been picking me up since we first married,(i was 'underweight' then). i thought since i'd given birth, it would be the end of it. but nooooooo, he doesn't mind picking up an over 10st (slightly)woman.
i found it very weird, and wonder if others still get carried around, especially in the least ideal moments.

i though you meant from work. i get piggy backs sometimes if that's what you mean!

serenity · 22/06/2006 17:09

No, it would rupture something (we're the same height, and shamefully I weigh more )

PrettyCandles · 22/06/2006 17:11

I would love it if dh picked me up - he did occasionally nearer the beginning of our relationship, but he'd get a hernia if he tried it now!

Perhaps one day I'll return to something closer to mili's weight, hopefully dh won't yet need his zimmer frame, and will pick me up again.

stitch · 22/06/2006 17:12

i weigh more than he does

SenoraPostrophe · 22/06/2006 17:15

you have to be having a laugh. he'd have more luck picking up a whale right now.

mili · 22/06/2006 17:15

we're nearly the same height, and he was only about 5 kilos more. i keep thinking he'll break his back, tho it's nice (the idea) to get carried around, i'm kinda scared. i think that's why he keeps doing it. hmmm, i could try to act bored, but i'm too busy screaming.
gosh, i don't think i wanna know what the neighbores are thinking when i'm screaming.

Good lord, he'd never walk again if he tried picking me up.

PrettyCandles · 22/06/2006 17:17
  • that's probably what they're thinking
mili · 22/06/2006 17:19

pc, hardly, i'm screaming 'please, put me down!' as he sneaks up on me (i never let him pick me up, so he does it when i'm not paying attention)

OP posts:
WigWamBam · 22/06/2006 17:21

Do you not want him to do it? It doesn't sound as if you like it much, and it seems strange that he would continue to do something that you don't like. I presume you've told him that you don't want him doing it?

PrettyCandles · 22/06/2006 17:24

Sorry. Personally, I feel (felt! ) very special when dh used to pick me up, even if scared of being dropped and worried he'd hurt himself. But if you really don't like it, tell him so. Would you feel better if he picked you up from in front or beside? It can be quite startling and unballancing to be swooped up from behind.

I love being picked up

god how embarrassing. I do though. It makes me feel all sylph like and terribly protected or man handled or something

Dp refuses, even though he is muscly and I am not heavy. The killjoy.

Xavielli · 22/06/2006 17:41

It's literally being swept of your feet is it not?

I love it!!!

LadyTambaOfTambaTown · 22/06/2006 17:47

DH does and it scares me half to death, hes 6'6 so its quite high up! He does it when hes had a drink and is trying to dance with me - dont ask!

I hate it! I worry he'll drop me cause at 10.8st im not tiny!

LotosEater · 22/06/2006 17:48

I think the last time dh picked me up was on our wedding day

mili · 22/06/2006 17:51

lol
see, i would enjoy it, and afterwards i do, but when i'm in the air, especially if i'm not expecting it, it's verrry scary. yeah, it does make me feel all that when i have 2 kids, especially since he seems to carry me with as much ease as dd1.
but it's still scary.

he will lift me off the ground in a twirly hug kinda way but he has never picked me up like that, although I've cadged the odd piggyback when drunk.

wilbur · 22/06/2006 18:01

I've always wanted to be one of those women who was swept into a mans arms a la Scarlett O'Hara. Dh trying to carry me, staggering, over the threshold after our wedding put paid to that fantasy. Sigh.

mili · 22/06/2006 18:04

lol. Yes, i've always (when i was younger) imagined it would be romantic. that was before i kept thinking i'm too heavy and he'll drop me.

PrettyCandles · 22/06/2006 18:16

Has he dropped you yet? Does he do it for pleasure or duty?

Wipe the worries from your mind, lie back and enjoy. If it gives him pleasure and a sense of manliness, and does you no harm (and you do admit that you enjoy at leat a bit of it) then that's a little gift you can give him.

NomDePlume · 22/06/2006 18:22

No. It has never occured to him to do it, and I've never asked.

mili · 22/06/2006 18:25

no he's never dropped me. I should just enjoy, hmmm, we'll see next time

Come to think of it, maybe he gets a kick out of your reaction. I don't mean that in a nasty way, but it's a bit like a toddler being deliberately naughty and 'pressing your buttons' to get a reaction. What would happen if you didn't shriek? Or if you laughed your head off?

I guess my perspective on it comes from remembering what I'd forgotten, and wishing I could have it again (sigh).
