I phone searches - can anyone help?

Ok long story cut short. My husband had an affair and we are trying to rebuild.
Anyway, I checked his phone this morning by side swiping and tapping 'I love you' into search. A text from one of his friends was top billing with I love you xx on it. When I tapped it went straight to a text stream between him and his friend. They had been texting about meeting up.

So what I have figured out is that at one point he had her number stored under his friends name, for obvious reasons. But... Is this a recently deleted text from her /him or is it that the words fitted the search and his friend was the last person he texted.
I hope that makes sense to someone. Have done an Internet search but all so techy.

So could it be an old deleted message or not? Thanks

At the beginning of the text stream you should find the date which will answer your question.

just checked...deleted messages still come up!

The iPhone groups texts together which have a similar date and time. If you scroll up from the message in question you will see all the messages exchanged during that 'conversation' and a timestamp for when the first message of that conversation came in. It will be in the middle of the screen between two messages (if you go all the way to the top you will likely get an earlier date).

Am i understanding this correct it is bringing it up on the search but when you click on its going to recent texts between him and a friend? if this is right I have just tried something similar on my phone and it is bringing up texts from well over a year ago.

If you scroll to the top of the text stream, it will normally say " load earlier messages", there are any. You tap that and more appear.

The messages have dates eg fir each day or period of time .
