A question about blocking people on OD sites

New to OD but wondering if I block people, do they know? Do they get a message to say I've blocked them?

How do others 'housekeep' the profiles on the sites if you don't block everyone you're not interested in? I'm sounding clueless

Want to be organised about OD but not sure how to.

Sorry I'm coming over as a weirdo control freak over organised, but not sure how to keep tabs on the profiles I've looked at and discarded etc.

I use OKCupid and housekeep thusly;

I hide people who are a good match if I know I won't be interested in, to save having to wade through them. This is probably a bit brutal but hey ho.

I block/delete anyone who sends me a 'sexy' message. I imagine they'd only ever send me one - the same one they c/p to 30 other women but it makes me feel I'm housekeeping Grin

OKC also has a bit to add a 'note' but I don't bother with that.

kalidanger · 11/08/2013 18:01

Oh, and anyone you block just doesnt see your profile anymore. They don't get a message.

ParsleyTheLioness · 11/08/2013 19:10

I don't think they get a message saying you have blocked them, but if they try to message you again I think they get some kind of indication you don't want to talk to them.

kalidanger · 11/08/2013 19:11

Do they? I thought the message just appears sent but never actually arrives?

ParsleyTheLioness · 11/08/2013 19:17

Ok, I was trying to avoid this...! I think it was on POF a few months ago, I had messaged a bloke with a breezy one liner, and he obviously wasn't interested in my many gifts. He sent me a message back, and then blocked me, presumably about the same time, which did seem like a massive over-reaction and assumption that I am a bunny-boiler which I'm not. I tried to read the message, not having any idea I had been blocked, and just couldn't acess it, which I thought was odd. So I messaged him in my naivety to say this, and got some kind of indication that he had blocked me!

kalidanger · 11/08/2013 19:19

Oh dear Parsley (((bunnies))) Wink I don't know about PoF Grin

ParsleyTheLioness · 11/08/2013 19:21

I'm over it now kali Plenty of Fish, POF for short.

I think the different sites work differently. I 'hide' profiles I could never be interested in, or people who I've rejected, or ones who I've mailed and didn't reply after a week or so - sometimes I'll try one more time in case the first was hidden in a deluge of mails, and sometimes get a positive response from that, but if I don't hear back I'll hide.

Blocking I only reserve for people who are just sending me weird messages. I'm a bloke so I get fewer, although there are still some.

This is on Match, incidentally.

Thanks. That makes it all seem easier Smile

Also, I didn't routinely block. Just people who were being a bit persistent, or weird, or rude, or sent willy pics...

TroublesomeEx · 12/08/2013 09:11

I'm on match too and my attitude is similar to Bant's.

TroublesomeEx · 12/08/2013 09:11

I've not had a willy pic! (Thank goodness!)

Bant · 12/08/2013 11:14

me neither

kaumana · 12/08/2013 12:19

For those on Match could you answer a couple of questions for me?

I get email notifications that someone has looked at my profile/winked at me etc but when I click the link they don't show up on my page? Why would that happen? It doesn't happen all the time and I haven't blocked the people.. hmm..

TroublesomeEx · 12/08/2013 12:49

I've had that a couple of times but it's only temporary.

I think that it takes a few moments/minutes for the website to be updated so I might get a "someone has viewed your profile" alert pop up/email, but they are only available to view 5 mins or so later.

I've not had any that haven't turned up at all.

kaumana · 12/08/2013 13:07

Thanks Folk.

I have had those who have never appeared! Strange..

No willy pics here either >
