I don't know where my original thread has gone but thank you for your replies.
It's interesting about the control issue you both mentioned, I think that's the undercurrent of what I was sensing but could not put into words and what was confusing me.
I've been away from it all for various reasons for awhile now, I suppose to give me time to work out what to do.
I don't have the level of social skill to play these games.
I think I'd rather keep A as an acquaintance and to B, play a supportive role as she has got some difficult things going on, try and concentrate on other friends too.
