Moving on from a long term relationship- how to start dating again?!

I ended an 8 year relationship about 6 months ago. I know it was the right thing to do but at the age of 31 I am wondering about starting dating. Meeting people would be relatively easy- I have a wide circle of friends who are keen to set me up with men they know and I have chatted to men at parties/weddings/nights out. I have resisted attempting to arrangr a date so far because I'm nervous about loads of things- what to talk about on a date, fear of rejection and the big one- sleeping with someone new! (although this wouldn't happen on the first date!!)
Anyone else been in this situation before?! What was your experience?

Ms23 - there is a dating thread in relationships where you'll get advice from a load of people, some in similar situations, others who've been through it before
