Online dating and feeling like an idiot

I'm going to try and condense this as much as possible! Posting because a) I feel really stupid and b) I don't want this to happen to anyone else

I've done a bit of online dating over the past year or so and it's all just been a bit of fun until a couple of months ago when I 'met' a guy called Tim. He seemed nice and although I played it fairly cool after a few weeks/a month I realised we had a lot in common. One issue was that he refused to send me a photo and a couple of times we planned to meet up and he cancelled. Read an article earlier about women who'd been duped on online dating sites so I thought I'd do a bit of googling on the two images I did have of 'Tim' from his dating profile. Much to my horror (although I kind of expected this tbh :( ) he's just taken the photos from the internet! God knows who this 'Tim' guy really is. I feel like a total idiot. He went on holiday a week ago and isn't back for another week which is probably good because he won't be pestering me for a while so I can 'move on'.

Very tempted to invite an old flame over tonight...bad idea?

By 'old flame' I mean someone I used to mess around a bit with, not someone I had feelings for. I guess you're right, I shouldn't feel the need to have any man here.

I'll go have a look at the thread. I just feel so stupid...I need to snap out of thinking of 'him' as the person he portrayed himself to be. shakes self

Maybe you should just have some time alone for a while? It's your call of course, but could you be 'using' the guy you used to 'mess around with'- can't be good for him to play 2nd fiddle - unless it's a reciprocal arrangement?

spangledboots · 14/07/2013 17:34

Thanks BloomingRose...there's definitely more to life than men! That's why I feel so silly.

Missbopeep - it's a reciprocal arrangement with the other guy.

Well, if it was me I'd invite him over. If its honest, no strings fun where's the harm? Forget the Internet douchebag!
