Bad relationship but dont want to be alone

I have been with my partner for around 15 months, we do not live together and have no children together so it would be easy for us to break up. We have nothing in common, he's childish, boring, bossy, miserable and all he cares about is cars. We want totally different things out of life.

We're going nowhere but I dont want to break it off because I dont want to be alone, I keep thinking of stuff we have planned for summer that wont be able to go ahead without him, I dont want to spend christmas alone with the kids either and I have no real friends so without him I'm going to have no social life whatsoever. Sad

What should I do?

What attracted you to him originally? Maybe if he is your entire social life, that's why you notice all his flaws so much? It's also heavy going to be the one social outlet in someone's elses life.

Maybe try and gradually build up an alternative social life. Try and do one regular social activity you enjoy and work at building up one real friendship, even if it means a lot of work. You have to have at least one friend to discuss men and their failings with, after all!

Maybe also get involved in some activity both of you enjoy which brings you in regular contact with other people, so you go out together but in a group. See how it goes from there?

What kind of things do you really enjoy doing? Can you do any of those with him, others without him?

sounds like you have pretty low self esteem, and you need to work on that.
It also sounds like you are with the wrong person.
What to do?
Well find something you really enjoy doing - singing, painting, swimming, karate - anything. Develop a passion for something and work on enriching your life.
You can get a social life, you just need to become independent and feel more comfortable in your own skin. It sounds like it would be a good time for you to 'find yourself' (forgive the hippiness!)
best of luck.
