Lying

I know my partner has a bad driving record, he has 6 points on his license for speeding, he's been cautioned by the police for speeding, having a dangerous fault and causing a nuicense in the car but a few weeks ago he said he had been pulled over for speeding and the officer was going to give him more points which would be a ban basically but a call came on the radio as he was writing the ticket out and he told DP that he would have to leave and to just drive slower in future so DP got away with it, my friends think i'm stupid if I believe that this could happen but why would he make that up? straight afterwards though he took his car off the road saying it needed work doing on it so has he been banned and he's just not telling me? he's been using hire cars since though so surely they would know if he wasnt allowed to drive?

Also a few weeks ago he apparantly knocked a little boy over, apparantly his parents picked him up and off they trotted...nothing came of it, surely SOMETHING would need to happen?

Is he lying? if so why?

There must be a legit way of finding out if he's been banned - are there any solicitor types out here who know the rules and where this information can be found?

My mil was stopped for speeding but let off on the spot (because the pc didn't beleive her morris minor could go that fast) - I think they do have discretion on that. Like you say, he shouldn't be driving hire cars if he is banned and don't you have to send your license off within a very short space of time?

Also re little boy: don't think anything "has" to happen. I know I'd just walk away if someone hit my dd v slowly - what's the point in taking it futher?

the police may well have had an emergancy call out and so needed to go. there are some callsthat take priority over a twat who cant control his car.

wuite frankly i think if he has hit a child and then got caught speeding i would take his keys away myself. he clearly has no road sense or respect for any other road users.

If he had been banned it would still require his licence to be sent back and fines to be paid etc so it wouldnt happen over night, plus he certainly wouldnt be able to use hire cars.

so what were they giving him 6 extra points for?

and if he needs it for work he can go to a magistrate.

Blush not that i know these things
