Has anyone tried EMDR therapy?

Self explanatory, as above.

Having been through a difficult time and in moving forward (4months, yippee!) am finally beginning to feel like myself again and losing the feeling of hurt etc.

Background: ex DP was an emotional and physical an user that took over my better judgement for too long. I ended up a shall, scared and it left me with PTSD

I initially tried therapy, but it was too early, I've been reading up about EMDR, and wondered if anyone can offer any experience? Positive or negative!

I'd like to explore the root of the fear little things trigger inside me with relation to the PTSD.

There's a small cloud that still follows me!
TIA

I’m currently trying EMDR, from childhood traumas, that happened 30 years ago I’ve had two sessions, and I already feel so much better! It’s amazing.

Yes! I was a completely skeptic, but the therapist convinced me to give it a go, and I think it was helpful. Would recommend:) xxxxx

I have C-PTSD which interferes with every aspect of my life. I'm very easily triggered, have high anxiety and am hypervigilant. I was referred to EMDR by my GP as I researched it and thought it would be very beneficial. I was assessed and was told that I was not suitable for it and that EMDR was good for a particular incident of trauma like a car crash but not long, ongoing trauma like child abuse.

She wanted me to do group therapy for the trauma but I said that wasn't suitable and I might find it triggering and it might retraumatise me. Part of my trauma is caused by very long term bullying and I am not very good with groups of people.

So, after a long and assertive discussion, I have been put on the waiting list for one to one therapy but with a student.

I still think that EMDR would be suitable. For those trained in it, do you think so and if so, what should I do?

My heart goes out to you, I also get anxiety in group situations. It’s very easy to misinterpret things, in triggering situations. EMDR has helped me in ways councling and group therapy, have not been able to. I can honestly say the two sessions, I have had have helped me more than the years of therapy. And I have had some pretty severe neglect, abuse, and just witnessing violence in my past. I say get a second opinion. And be Proud of yourself for facing these things and have the courage to be healthy

EMDR is the best. I had anxiety and depression treated for years with conventional meds and therapy. I got sicker and sicker. After 12 years I was in crisis. I realized if I did not come up with a plan B that I was going to be dead or in an institution. EMDR had me doing much better within two sessions. After a year the therapist told me that the word on the street among EMDR people was to be really effective the patient had to be off meds. I began to taper off very carefully. When my psychiatrist objected, I told him that I had been absolutely compliant with his instructions for years, and the only thing I had to show for it was suicide watch. I was done. EMDR lady was in charge. I never went back to him. Today my everything is in remission and I am well. Love EMDR lady. 💕
