How do you extricate yourself from a 'friendship'

Known this person through our children for about 2.5 years. We both have two children same ages. She has always made tactless stupid comments about my DS and is v competitive. She has told me in past people at work have complained about her being 'blunt' . She appears to have NO idea how her comments effect me and others. Confronted her a few weeks back and she was shocked I was hurt by what she'd said. I know she does not mean it but I just can't help being hurt by her stupid comments. She is friends with other people I don't want to loose contact with. What to do????
