3rd party cookies?

Just out of interest. Can porn sites add cookies for sites you have never visited? Say, on safari website data history, just for instance?

So, sites like localslags and fuckbookhookup?

You need to actually be on the site, and tick a box to accept cookies in order for cookies to be placed.

So, on my website data, there are sites I haven't visited...but none of them are porn sites...!

Well, it is the law And if the websites place cookies without your consent they are breaking the law.

Actually many websites have started getting around this by having terms and conditions stating that by using the site you agree to them placing cookies, and if you dont want cookies, you stay away from the site.

As I say, all I'm trying to work out is if some horrible websites, like the ones above, have actually been visited, or not.

Anyone with any advice on this?

How else do you think the cookies have ended up on your ipad?

To phrase it differently, a cookie is usually placed when the webpage is loaded onto your computer. I dont think you can get a cookie from a website you have not visited.

This is from working on my Ipod, but it should apply to an Ipad.

Go to Settings, scroll down to Safari and tap on it, it comes up with a list Titles are general and Privacy, there should be an accept cookies button under the Privacy title, next to it it will tell you what your cookie setting is, either Never, From Visited or Always.

That should give you some idea of how the cookies have got there.

Other than the above I have no idea.

Both my iPad, and the iPad in question have that set to From Visited.

On mine I am sure there are some I haven't visited, but mostly I recognise all of them.

On the other iPad, there are a lot of general porn sites, which Im not surprised about. And these other porn dating site things like those above which I haven't dared to go and look at, but seem vile.

Just not entirely sure what to do about it.

Yes, I know he looks at porn, and while it doesn't make me happy, i guess that a lot of men do. But the other sites, that really gets me. Even if he hasn't acted on it.

Okay, what he's done is probably cleared the history for the more dubious sites but hasn't realised they have put cookies on the ipad, these need clearing seperately. If your cookie settings have been set to From Visited the only way they are on the Ipad is because he's visited them.

Sorry.

I think the first thing you need to do is work out how you feel and why these particular sites have effected you more than the others.

If it was me i wouldn't be telling him how I know, once he knows he can delete the cookies, keep it for future purposes.

Keep talking on here, there are people on here that are better on the relationship stuff than I am and now you've stated what the problem is, they will help.

I don't know about cookies but have you done a thorough check of history? Not just on the Safari page, but like this :

Go to Settings>Safari>scroll the page to the bottom and click on Advanced>Website Data.
This will show a fuller history of actual sites visited, not cookies placed, although it may well have been deleted anyway if the ipad owner is smart/trying to hide something. But it's worth a try.

Thanks binky. I don't plan on telling him or confronting it just yet til I've worked out how I feel about it.

I just needed to know if he had actually been on the sites. And I'm still not 100% sure on that.

Sue, yes that's how I found them. He has deleted history, but left the website data. Those are the cookies...I think!

From my 5 minute google, It appears the only way to get cookies when its set to From visited is to visit the site, If it was set to Always then they could come from anywhere.

It is possible he had it previously set to Always, had the cookies deposited without his knowledge and changed the setting at a later date.

If that info is showing in Website Data, I am 99% sure those are actual sites visited rather than cookies. On my own ipad it only shows sites I've visited but perhaps it depends on OS, ipad version etc ?
Hopefully someone else will come along who is a bit more techie. How about asking on the 'Geeky Stuff' board of MN ?

Possibly! But I doubt it. there are quite a few on there.id say out of possibly a couple of hundred. About 20 are nasty, and a few more are just dubious.

I tried to look on google, but couldn't find the answer. All I could find was how to delete your cookies, which I didn't want.

What gets me is that, I understand why he is looking at porn if he feels he wants more sex, but it makes me feel less and less inclined to have sex with him because I can't stand the thought of grim porn. Catch 22.

Just done a quick google myself and you don't necessarily have to have visited the sites showing in Website Data.
It's odd because I don't seem to have any ads in mine, but I think a talk is in order if you're concerned about what type of porn he's viewing.

It sounds like your H has been visiting very dodgy sites.

Its so depressing seeing how every week there is nearly always a thread about how someone has discovered their H has been cheating via dating, no strings sex or escorts sites and there is always a background history of porn use.

On my iPhone i have pop ups blocked and on my webdata thing it comes up with localslags.co.uk and I can assure I haven't been on that site lol. If you have pop ups blocked it could be because of that. Made me chuckle when I saw it, knowing I hadn't been on that or any porn on my phone (not a fan or user of porn)... So perhaps it's that?

These cookies could be set by the pop ups on these porn websites your partner visits because by definition, once a pop up opens up it counts as a webpage visited.
