How often do you hear from grandparents?

Just wondering, how often do you hear from your children's grandparents? Daily, weekly, monthly? Do they contact you just for a chat, about everyday stuff or just if there's something specific to say? How often do they ask about your children and what sort of things do they want to know?

There couldn't be more contrast between our two sets of grandparents, we have both extremes!!

We see one set every week. The other set once a year but speak monthly.

DH's mum we see weekly and speak to most days.

DH's dad is dead.

My mum we speak to once every few weeks. It used to be more often but I realised that it was always me calling her, not the other way. She hardly bothers, so I don't so much either now. Visit three or four times a year (300 mile journey.)

My dad is estranged, the last ten years. Never met his grandchildren.

In laws -when it's someone's birthday or Easter/Christmas

My mum we're NC with.

My eldest dd sees her friends involvement with their grandparents and is very upset not to have a grandma that wants to spend time with her Hmm

Another one resolved to be an outstanding grandparent one day. It really really matters I think. But if the ones you have aren't up to it there is no point wishing differently because they will not change.

During school term, my parents look after DS after school three times a week and we visit them on a Saturday or Sunday too! We also have quite regular phone contact. During the holidays, maybe we visit them two or three times a week, depending what we or they are doing. We also go on holiday with them.

DP's parents live 2.5 hours away and we visit every school holidays. DP has phone contact with his mum every fortnight or so.
