A few ?arguments? put here in support of pornography use:
- Most men look at porn at some time, so porn is OK.
- Men require visual sexual stimulation, so it?s OK for them to look at porn.
- There?s some unethical treatment of women by the porn industry, but you get that in the clothes industry too, so porn is OK.
- Some women look at porn, so porn is OK.
Are any of these good arguments in favour of porn or porn use? No. Not one of them. They?re excuses. None is a good defence of porn or porn use.
No 3 is particularly daft. I mean, should we ignore unethical practices because they are commonly found in a variety of workplaces? And, of course, some women are not used and abused by the porn industry, so those that are can be ignored, brushed under the carpet, can they? This parochial thinking depresses me. It's 'I and mine are fine with porn, no one else matters'. We need to examine the bigger picture.
And is porn OK because it?s popular with men? Since when has popularity been the only reason required to make an act acceptable? Are men slaves to their desire to get off to images? I hope not!
And some women?s interest in porn makes porn OK, how? It just makes some women like most men. Lazy. Deluding themselves it's OK just so they can get a quick fix.
Porn use and acceptance creates demand in the industry. It drives the supply out from behind a pay wall, which means kids can now look at it on their computers and phones for free. While so much is free, the 'pay for' options become ever more inventive in their offerings. Have you seen or read about what's available now!
I despair of some women, but I suspect they don?t know much about modern porn. Wise up, ladies -- for the sake of women and girls world wide, boys' sexual attitudes, and of fostering good relationships between men and women.
